Slow speed on Sky Unlimited BB. *Especially after 5PM*

      Hi guys,

I've been using Sky Unlimited BB since February and in the last 2 months especially I've been suffering from slow speeds.
After using an online speed test, it stated I was running at 2-4MBPS throughout the day but as low as 0.90MBPS after 5PM (especially weekends, hence the post).

I followed the advice posted on another thread (Optimising your Broadband Connection) and found my speed has apparently increased to around 4MBPS.

These are my current stats. Is this acceptable, or should I be aiming for more?

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3907 kbps 602 kbps
      Line Attenuation 31.5db 25.0db
      Noise Margin 6.2db 6.7db

Your noise margins are not very good, through put can be affected by a number of things, are you on ethernet or wireless?

      I'm wireless.

I can't get into the Test Socket at the moment. Will it have critical information or is there anything else you can tell me without it?

      Cheers,

How many telephone sockets do you use?
Is there a microfilter connected directly into each telephone socket in use, ensuring that nothing is before the filter?
Is the router connected to the master socket or an extension socket?
Are you using the short grey dsl cable that Sky provided, or running an extension telephone cable to the router?
Do you have Sky tv connected to any telephone sockets - if so, how is that connected to the socket?

      One telephone socket.
      Yes, there IS a microfilter.
      Connected to the master socket.
I am using the grey Sky DSL cable.
      I don't have Sky TV.

      Thank you for your assistance,

In that case, test socket would be the next step as suggested.

Any noise or issues present on the landline?

If you definitely only have one socket then it looks like you have an external line fault or your router is faulty. You should be in the 14-16Mb speed range. Do you have an alarm connected to your phone?

You should remove your email address from your profile, unless you want to receive a lot of spam messages.
