      Slow Download/Upload

My download speed has been quite slow, and I'm not sure what speeds I should be getting, I am on an unlimited package with Sky.

This is my exchange, I think my area has LLU. SamKnows - Broadband Availability - Wrexham North (WNWXN) Exchange

I have been advised by some to plug my router in-to a master socket instead of an extension - here are the results:

Before - router plugged in extension:

      Speedtest.net:

      Ping 65ms
      Download Speed - 2.64 kbps
      Upload Speed - 0.67 kbps

Namesco BroadbandMax ADSL Broadband Bandwidth speedtest | Test your ADSL Broadband connection speed

      Download Speed 2636 kbps (329.5 kb/a)
      Upload Speed - 660 kbps (82.5 KB/sec)

      Router Statisitics

Connection Speed Downstream 3069 kbps Upstream 797 kbps
Line Attenuation Downstream 52 db Upstream 33 db
Noise Margin Downstream - 6 db Upstream 12 db

After - router plugged into master socket:

      Speedtest.net:

      Download Speed - 2.65 kbps
      Upload Speed - 0.68 kbps

Namesco BroadbandMax ADSL Broadband Bandwidth speedtest | Test your ADSL Broadband connection speed
      Download Speed: 2736 kbps (342 KB/sec )

      Upload Speed: 654 kbps (81.8 KB/sec )

      Router Statistics

Same as before only noise margin went up by 2db on downstream.

      Thanks guys.

Quite a long line from the exchange hence the slow broadband speed. Post your stats from the test socket in the full format like this:

      Router Statisitics

Connection Speed Downstream 3069 kbps Upstream 797 kbps
Line Attenuation Downstream 52 db Upstream 33 db
Noise Margin Downstream - 6 db Upstream 12 db

What will plugging in the test socket do?

      Re: Slow Download/Upload

Just tried this and I unscrewed the screws but the faceplate wouldn't come off with any force, I don't want to pull it off the wall. :/

It will come off, it is meant to.

Have you got socket extensions? If you don't, don't bother as it will make no difference.

      Re: Slow Download/Upload

Yeah I do, I run the phone and the router off it :/

Any other ideas, someone recommended I phone Sky up and ask them about if they have capped speeds or something, I'm running out of ideas.

      Re: Slow Download/Upload

Your not capped so nothing Sky can do, chances are it is your internal wiring at fault which is why the stats from the TEST socket are important.

I will try in master socket then test socket soon, if the faceplate comes off which I don't think it will.

Don't have a cable tht=at fits in apart from the extension cable. Can't do it. Oh well.
