Yes, it does fit but that is the extension. What cable am I supposed to put in? The only cable that fits is the adsl filter with the 2 ends on it for the phone and router. Am I supposed to just fit that in-to the test socket?

The first thing you plug into a socket is a adsl-filter and then plug your router into the adsl filter using a dsl cable.

Make sure it's like this. Except of course being plugged into the test rather then master socket.

      Few questions:

1.) Right, got it. Will try this tomorrow if the faceplate actually comes off, it seems stuck. Any suggestions on how to get it off without snapping it?

2.) Also, what numbers should I be looking for when plugged into the test socket?

3.) If something is wrong with my internal wiring, what can I do with that problem?

It's a slide mechanism so you pretty much have to pull it. Hold it from both ends and give it a few tugs. If it doesn't bulge try a few push and pull sequences.

Lines vary a lot so it's hard to tell what to expect. Just make a note of your attenuation, noise margin and sync speed and post it here.

Usually it's just a matter of buying and fitting a filtered faceplate and keeping your router at your master socket permanently.

That's great, thanks. The router wouldn't be able to be exclusively alone, the phone will always be there on the filter too, does that affect anything?

      Re: Slow Download/Upload

Maybe you misunderstood me, when I asked about extensions I meant sockets fixed to the wall in other rooms, not a trailing extension.

From what you have said, I get the impression you are running the router on a trailing extension. If you are and it is a standard telephone extension, that is a sure way to kill your broadband. The router should be plugged into the filter using the cable supplied by Sky and that filter plugged directly into the wall socket.

      Re: Slow Download/Upload

      Yep

I am moving the router so it will by right by the master socket, so that will probably improve things. At the moment, the broadband cable has to travel around 12 ft, but the router will be right by the master socket. I have run some tests with the router in the master socket and it hasn't improved speeds or anything. Although the cable is plugged in normally into the filter, it still has to travel a ways to get to the router.

What is a trailing extension though?

Do you mean you do have fixed extensions, or you don't?

      Re: Slow Download/Upload

Right, this is how everything works at the moment - to clear everything up.

I have an ASDL filter plugged in-to the master socket. The broadband cable runs from the filter behind skirting boards and in-to the router. It travels 12-15 ft away. The phone is also connected on the filter. That is all, My router's ELECTRICITY runs off an extension. Hope that clears everything up
