Drop outs over the past week or so ?

      Hello,

I've been with sky BB for a long time not really had any issues with them once i plugged my router into the master socket

Starting last week i seen to be having a awful lot of drop outs and also it seems to happen more and more when I'm downloading either by usenet, torrents, etc..

I'm having to login to the router and disconnect and reconnect not sure why this is?

I have swapped micro-filters and that's not done a things also as I've said i have the router plugged directly into the master socket and then run a cat 5 cable to my pc.

I have the old white netgrear router Firmware Version V1.03.87 .

Re: Drop outs over the past week or so ?

You have quite a lot of CRC errors. This could confirm a line fault.

Could you perform the following checks please:

using a corded telephone, plugged into the test socket, dial '1' and listen carefully for any noise on the line
again using a corded telephone, dial 17070 and perform a 'quiet line test'

In both cases listen carefully for any noise on your telephone line.

If there is anything, then you will need to contact your line provider (i.e. whomever you pay your line rental to) and they will arrange for the line to be repaired.

If you are not with Sky Talk, do not mention the ADSL problems as they will try and bounce the problem to Sky when it is their problem.

Re: Drop outs over the past week or so ?

Give Sky a friendly call. Explain the situation and ask if someone can perform some checks on your line.

I would of wanted to examine your router stats properly, but you stated that you have had to reset your router each time.

The uptime for the WAN, WLAN & LAN connections could have confirmed whether there was an issue with the router of the line. If the line was the problem, then the uptime for the WAN would have been significantly short in comparison to the other two.

A PSU or router problem might have caused all the up-times to be reset.

Even taking this all into account, as I mentioned previously, you have a large amount of CRC errors. This would confirm a line problem.

I am hoping that the people at Sky can confirm that there is a line issue and arrange for BTO to pay you a visit.

Before you call Sky, ensure that you are still using the test socket. it will make the testing easier.

Re: Drop outs over the past week or so ?

Looking at your last two dumps, it looks as though there might be a problem with the router as well.

The WAN time has stayed up.

Thankfully with you router it is possible to see the high number of CRC errors though. All the other Sky routers don't allow the customer to see these figures, but Sky personnel can see them by accessing the LLU equipment. I think that the problems you are experiencing could well be more related to them.

Hopefully someone with more experience can comment on the specifics though.

Try a different router. The white Netgears have a short life cycle. Looks like yours is at the end of it. Turn your router off and then ring sky telling them your router is dead. Hopefully they'll send you a free replacement.
