      Re: Finally got connected today

Sorry to jump into this thread but I have been connected with Sky broadband unlimited since midday on the 8th June, my connection has re-synced once after the 2nd day and went from -

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4095 kbps 510 kbps
Line Attenuation 28.5 dB 17.4 dB
Noise Margin 16.3 dB 22.0 dB

      to

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8191 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 28.5 dB 17.4 dB
Noise Margin 18.8 dB 13.5 dB

but since then it has not re-synced for over 78 hours. It states on my account that line testing started on the 10th but I thought it would re-sync every night until it got the highest stable speed, I also thought the noise margin would have dropped with the increase in speed? Do you think it will go any higher with those stats or would it be worth giving Sky a call? Thanks!

      Re: Finally got connected today

thanks for the replies, will wait till its over and see what speed would i end up with.
The flat next door gets a bit over 20meg on sky and with what I've been told here, I should have the same. But that downstream is enough for me, I'm more of a gamer than a heavy downloader.

On the bright side, I'm getting way better pings now, 27-28ms to bbc.co.uk

is that as good as it gets on sky?

From what I've seen here, your noise margin will keep going down when it re-syncs till it hits around 7dB, so wait till DLM is over

With my connection it synced twice on the first day with not a major changed, then took over 100 hours for the 3rd resync, so give it a day or two. Plus my advice would be to wait till the 10 period is over and then give them a call.

      Re: Finally got connected today

What was you connection speed with Orange?

You should be able to get significantly more with your current line attenuation. Are you connected to the Master Socket or the Test Socket with the short grey ADSL lead supplied by Sky?

You should be able to get higher connection speeds that what I have.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

      Re: Finally got connected today

My connection got re-synced last night, noise margin went up but speeds stayed the same

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 16378 kbps 1110 kbps
Line Attenuation 12.0 dB 8.2 dB
Noise Margin 8.6 dB 8.7 dB

could this mean that there are some extra megs on the way?

Are you using the test socket & the short grey ADSL lead supplied by Sky?

There is a little room for improvement now, but not that much.

      Re: Finally got connected today

      Yes for both questions.

What could be the reason for it seeming to cap at 16megs, when all signs seemed to point at faster than that?

      Re: Finally got connected today

The SNR doesn't lead to a lot more, that's why. You'd need a larger SNR to give a noticeable difference in speed
