      Google \ DNS issue?

      H'lo,

Having some fun and games this morning; sites like reddit.com , facebook, skyuser, bbc news and so on are all working fine for me.

When I try to go to google mail, or google reader (.com or .co.uk) or even the general google search page - no joy. It tries to for about 15-30 seconds, then gives me a "Can't find the page" thingy in Chrome with:

"The server at Google can't be found because the DNS lookup failed. DNS is the web service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network."

...and a load of info underneath about troubleshooting.

I've turned the router on and off, got rid of prefetch settings in CHrome, etc.

In IE, there's almost the same behaviour; but when you try to go to google you just can't 'Internet Explorer cannot display the page'.

Nipped over to the Sky forums, and oddly enough, a fun problem there; the top banner and bottom banner are fine, but it's like the site has lost all CSS in the middle of the page; no formatting or pictures!

And on SkyUser - things are working fine, but pages seem to pause for a few seconds when it gets to the google ads - and then the rest of the page loads with the ads blanked out. (And yeah, checked about any ad-protection settings - no joy there!)

So - anyone else getting this?
      ---reech---

I'm glad i'm not the only one, been racking my brains as too what the problem is, checked cables, rebooted router, tried different browsing programmes and still getting same problem, looks like its a problem at Sky or Google's end then

Same problem here. Tried re-booting the router but now I'm left with an amber router light.

Left it like that to come to work. Hopefully it will sort itself out during the day.

      Re: Google \ DNS issue?

Yes, same problem here. Both on Chrome and IE, although IE keeps on telling me I have no internet connection whereas Chrome seems better at finding Facebook etc.

I can't get to LOADS of sites - ebay, BBC site goes to BBC mobile for some reason and, I noticed with ebay, that the link it tries to bring up is, in fact, "rover.ebay.co.uk" which is THEIR mobile site.

I've done all the usual things, still can't get half the webpages. It's NOT just Google,
      try these :

BBC - Homepage and see which site it takes you to - mobile or normal
eBay - one of the UK's largest shopping destinations etc

I seem to be able to get some of my more regular sites (listed in favorites) but LOADS of others are down. Been on the phone to Sky BB help for 42 mins now, still on hold! They have an announcement which says that BT did some 'work' on ALL their broadband services last night and ALL Sky customers with a BT line connected broadband will need to reboot their modems and then should get normal service. I've rebooted AND reset, still got the same problems.

      GRRRRRR!

I have this problem but only when I connect via a non-Sky router.

      Re: Google \ DNS issue?

      Still on hold with Sky!

Facebook has now gone down for me, was there initially, now no longer there - DNS server error again. More accurately, I should say it is up and down - there sometimes, other times it just brings up the error when I reload the page.

I guess BT have had to take the whole service down again - that's what Sky helpline announcement appears to indicate.

Set your secondary dns server to 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.8.4
      until sky fix it

Same problem here, using Bing to search instead for the first time ever!
