      SKY is a ripoff IMHO

I eork for Virgin Media in IT Support and have a Masters in Computer Sciences. IMHO Sky on the majority of therir customers being ignorant of computing. I livein sheltered sccommodation since having major strokes most residents have sky broadband including me. I thought my BB was very slow at 1.7kps; ywe kilobits per second, so I phoned Sky and was informed that it was the best I could get, I phoned BT and they told mr that my line should give upto 5Mb ps.
I phoned Sky numerous times demanding a better service so they told me it would be put through to 'solutios' a week went by and I heard nothing so I phoned again and was answred by a very bright sounding lady who looked up my account and saw that I had a 'choke' on my bandwidth, which she removed, shr then advised mr to change my wi-fi channel because lots of people close by me were also Sky users and their routers would be setup identically to mine except for the password i.e all on the same channel ; this would cause interference and slow my speed, she then gave me the router username and password and I changed my wi-fi channel, by the end of my call my BB speed had jumped to 3.8 Mb!so Sky were ripping mreoff by 'choking'my bandwidth and not setting up my router correctly for the area I was in, I have been around quite a few other residents here and vstly imroved their bandwidth simply by changing their wi-fi channels. I suspect most are 'choked'too and sdvised them to phone Sky to demand that their choke be removed. I have also contscted OFCOM and suggested that any claim to supply of Broadband must be a constntly deliversbl 10 MB and that a super broadband service should be created delivering 20+MB of couse the only company that can deliver tjis at the moment is Virgin Media but BT Infinity should be able to deliver when it comes online. When Ilived in Peterborough I hsd VM and was on the testing team (residential for their 50MB Broadband and it is phenominal givin pausless vide streaming! IMHO no ISP should use a thirdparty webmail for their email solution it is cheap and tacky they will never be a true broadband supplier or ISP until they dort their BB and emAIL.
I have one question How do I move all my emails from Sky gooflemail onto my own P as an archive Please? I asked viathe help button and was told that there was an answer but it would cost me £35.00 to get it WHAT A RIP OFF !!! Sky charge a furtune for their services and don't deliver therefor I ewill be leaving them! but want to take my emails with me, but HOW???

      Paragraphs. Use them.

In regards to Sky placing a 'choke' on your bandwidth - DLM (Dynamic Line Management) rarely caps customers for no reason. Fact is that you've probably had some issue on your end that the training tool didn't like and capped the line for stability. Advising people to call Sky and demanding they stop 'choking' bandwidth will not get you anywhere. Anyway, you're leaving Sky so there's no point in explaining further.

Considering the amount of errors in your post, I doubt VM support will be any better!!!

you guys do realise that if his post is true, he has had a few strokes and probably cannot type correctly? You're just being nasty.

Of course there is no way to prove he is telling the truth but its probably best to give him the benefit of the doubt. Who would claim to have a stroke for sympathy?

I think the OP has misunderstood what Ofcom has told him, as no company can guarantee a speed. If your line cannot support 10mbps, then what are Sky to do? They cannot replace your line, or improve it without spending thousands, just for your line.

Also Sky would not charge you £35 to move your email service. You can do it free of charge. The Sky email service also used to be their own system, but they changed to googlemail because it was that horrible.

I'm not for a moment claiming it in this instance, but it happens...

We are all of us entitled to our own opinion but some more than others might do better keeping that opinion to themselves particularly when they seem to have incorrectly grasped the facts.
I have been with Sky for 2 years on the Unlimited package and have not had one minute's bother during that time. My router syncs with the exchange at 17Mbps and I get a throughput of around 15Mbps with unlimited downloads. And all for the princely sum of £7.50 a month.
I appreciate that not everyone will be so lucky but I would have thought that anyone working in IT Support would at least be able to check their router settings and change channel. If that's the standard of support I'm quite pleased I'm not with Virgin.

If true it just shows you can be I.T. illiterate and still get a Masters in Computer Sciences and a job with Virgin support.

Stroke or no stroke, I would expect someone who is in his position with his experience to be able to run a spell check or at least proof what he has typed and correct the errors, if is was only one or two it wouldn't be so bad!!! we all make mistakes.

Googlemail, which Sky use, is probably now the most popular email in the world. There is no need to access it from the Webpage, it can be set up to work with any email client. Instructions on how to do this are on the email help page.

I asked viathe help button and was told that there was an answer but it would cost me £35.00 to get it WHAT A RIP OFF !!!
I think you have misunderstood the reply. Sky do not charge for telling you how to move email. If this is true
"I eork for Virgin Media in IT Support and have a Masters in Computer Sciences" surely you have a basic understanding of collecting/sending your email through a client such as Outlook or Thunderbird etc. That is all you require.

Re: SKY is a ripoff IMHO

Personally I have contacted Sky many times over the phone for many different thing from problems, to purchasing there service etc....

Sometimes you can get the odd person who will be a @rse! but what you have to remember is the customer service staff have a "script" which they have to follow before they can escalate your problem to a higher department. Also don't forget they have to understand your problem throughly before they can fix it!

Personally I get around 14mb download speeds with Sky so I'm happy.

I use googlemail regularly (my main email account) and am very happy with it!

Oh and i take it this is you on this forum?
      And Here?

Surely if you have a MSc in Computer Science you must understand what POP in regards to email's is?

You should be able to grab all your email via that!

Just in case you are still stuck here
