The phone side of the filtered faceplate is filtered so you do not require any additional filters on hardwired or plug in extensions.

I've got the exact same problem. It's been exceptionally bad recently. I'm literally only getting about 5 mins of internet before it disconnects again. I've had this problem ever since having sky due to the crackly phone line. It was (almost) resolved after speaking to sky a couple of months ago. The phone line was still crackly but the internet seemed to stay connected. However, from some reason it's come back with a vengeance this time.

Let me know if you get your problem resolved evokazz.

This last week has seen a lot of wind across the country.

It is not unheard of for a tree that was close to overhead telephone lines to be responsible for damaging your line.

If the tree is on your property, then you are responsible for trimming it. If it is not, then find out who is.

Give your line provider a call and they should then arrange for BTO to make the necessary repairs.

      Re: Intermittent Connection Returns

Well it would need to be a special tree to destroy my line as my line is underground lmao. This worries me though, as if my old line has eroded, or something, how the hell are they gonna fix it? They wont dig up the road just to fix my crackly line!!! I have a brown plastic facia running down the front of the house, into the ground. It has the old BT logo (T in a circle).

Interesting about the weather though, even though my line runs underground, the wind has died down today, and the sun has popped out, no rain, and the line has been flawless ALL DAY, not gone once, normally I would easy say weather, lines etc, but due to mine being underground, what does this mean for me??

Also last year, and every year we have lived here the internet has been fine, in rain, snow, sleet, tornadoes, earthquakes lol, ok exaggerated, but why is the weather affecting it?? And how can BT fix??

More info to think about, I was on the phone today, stood at the window, indoors, a big gust of wind blew the bushes in the garden, and howled outside. The crackling on the line was immense during this, then as the wind passed (lol) the line went clear.

Interesting that you could see the gust affecting the trees at the same time as your line making a noise.

I would be tempted just to wander down the road to see where you green street box is. I wonder if your telephone line comes out somewhere and this is where it has been damaged.

As for how BTO will repair the telephone line, that is their responsibility and their problem. There are ways and means, so don't worry about it.

All that crackling will interfere with your broadband though, no matter who your ISP is.

I trust that you will be looking forward to their visit on Wednesday now.

Edit: In a really bad case, it could always be the routs if a tree is loose in the ground.

Yeah man, I never thought about roots. I dont think there is any tree's on route though, the green box is at the end of my road, and it looks in tact, I tried opening the door but it still remains locked secure, which is good, so nobody has tampered with it, I think. I am indeed excited about wednesday. The weather is raining today, no wind though, and internet is holding for a second day, if it just holds up till wednesday I will be happy, dont mind a couple of D/C but 10+ a day is a little annoying!

      Re: Intermittent Connection Returns

Openreach guy just been out, he just checked the green box and all is spot on he said. He came to my house and tested bits and bobs, he used a gadget to do a quiet line test and it came back spot on. He then plugged in the broadband and the noise came back on the line. He swapped out the broadband cable thinking that was causing issues, and it made no change, so he said it must be the router. I explained this was the 3rd router sky sent me, and he just looked lost as to what may be causing it. I showed him the small extenson lead, and he said that it should not affect the line, as the quiet line test is spot on with it in, just the connection of the broadband is causing the noise, he proved this to me twice.

He has gone off to my local exchange to check the broadband cables and phone connections and is calling back in 30mins to let me know the findings. If all is well, then he said he really has no other advice other than to replace router, but he said routers dont normal cause line noise.

So if the exchange visit comes back fine, where do I go from there? I know he is telling the truth as I saw the line clear up instantly when BB was removed. Whats more annoying he said is I have no extensions on the BB its a direct connect.

Using the Sky provided Microfilter the noise was worse, but when he fitted my ADSL Nation one, it improved, but only slightly. When he removed the whole lot and just stuck the phone in, it was clear as a bell.

      UPDATE

Just phoned back, didnt think he would, the exchange looks fine unfortunately, so I have no idea where to go from here.

      Stats today

      WLAN 0 0 0 0 0 00:00:00

Connection Speed 6073 kbps 796 kbps
      Line Attenuation 44.0db 25.9db
      Noise Margin 11.0db 11.0db

Weird thing is, the internet has been all good for 2 days, but we have been unable to use the phone due to noise

The only thing I can think of at the moment is for you to purchase a good microfilter and try it.

Was he an ordinary BTO line engineer or a Broadband specialist?

      Re: Intermittent Connection Returns

      BTO Line.

Regarding the microfilters, I have tried 3 different Sky ones, and also the ADSL Faceplate filter, which are meant to be a lot better, all same. He called back saying exchange seems fine, but he will call me back after the tests are 100% in 5 minutes, that was 45 minutes ago lol.

Im gonna leave it an hour and see if he has actually changed anything (if it fixes) failing that I think I'll unplug everything from my test socket, unplug all ethernets, and my phone, and do the 17070 test thing myself, while adding each thing one by one. If it turns out to be my DLINK2640S I have 2 Sagemcom routers I can try, if the noise is still there after that, then I dont know what the hell I am gonna do. Probably ring Sky Talk and Sky BB again?? urgh I was hoping today was the day it was fixed, and all it has done, is told me its still broken and nobody knows why
