Thumbs down Disconnecting all the time....

      Hi,

I recently took out a Sky Unlimited package, but I'm experiencing a large number of disconnects which is making it impossible for me to surf the web or play games online without being interrupted.

The windows vista repair doesn't work and my windows icon which depicts if I have internet or not, is always the 'Local connection only' icon, with no Blue thing on it to say its connected, even though I can get on the internet.

I'm connected directly to the router from the main line that comes into the house with one of those things on the wire to help (cant remember the name!).

Any help would be really appreciated as it is driving me insane!

      Re: Disconnecting all the time....

Firstly you will need to disable the WiFi on the router as there are lots of problems currently with it.

Please read more in these threads:

If you need to use WiFi, there are work-arounds suggested in the threads.

I knew there would be a problem with it! Typical!

I will have a read and report back - thanks Scubbie...

      Re: Disconnecting all the time....

I'll let you read the threads, but essentially you will need to disable the WiFi on the Sagem 2304n router until the Firmware update is released.

If you need to use WiFi in the mean time, please feel welcome to dig out an old router and read this thread too:

      Re: Disconnecting all the time....

Thanks but I recently moved out and as such, don't have a collection of old routers like my parents! So I guess WiFi will stay off until a firmware update is released - how often do they usually take to fix issues like this.

I.e. - Should I reinstate my wifi in a week, month, year(?!)

      Wifi disabled

      Thanks,

Well, I got windows vista to recognise I have internet connection by following this setup (wired connections).

Sky Broadband - Network connection settings

Updated stats attached, any good, what else can I do to improve it?

      Re: Disconnecting all the time....

Your download speed is at it's peak for Sky. The upload could improve a little.

Could you check your MySky page to confirm whether DLM has completed?

As for the spare WiFi router, is there any chance you could borrow one from your parents?

There are rumours that a fix could become available over the next couple of weeks, so please feel free to keep an eye on this forum for information. It has taken them since February to identify the problem/s and produce a fix.

My DLM looks like it started on the 13/05/2011 so am obviously still going through it.

Although I said in my previous post that the IPv4 tweaks worked, they worked fine for around an hour and I then lost all connection and couldn't reconnect.

I also found that my router had somehow re-enabled the wireless!!

I had to change the settings back to automatic in order for it to even idenify my router!

I had it as follows, but am cautious that changing it again will just screw it up, anything wrong here?

I have had mine working for long periods, then had it crash spectacularly.

Currently I am piggybacking the Netgear off the Sagem 2304n and the WiFi on the Sagem is disabled.

Take a look at the up time for your router. DLM works between the hours of 1am-6am. It will run for up to 10 days after it started but could run for just a few days.

Typically it will reset the router WAN up time around 3am. If you check it in the morning and see that the up time is only a few hours, then you will know DLM is still working.

If DLM has settled and the up time is over 72 hours, then it may well have completed.

Personally I would not set a fixed IP address of anything to such a low number. The router by default is set to allocate the first item to that particular setting. This will cause an IP conflict should something else connect before your computer.

Also the DNS settings IMHO could do with being changed. You may set them to Sky's own DNS settings, OpenDNS or Google DNS. Whilst setting them to the router will work, define another DNS server is often better.

Why do you wish to set a permanent IP address to the computer?
