wow thanks again for all your help im so grateful!

IWasNotTheEnemy- I think all the sockets i have in my new build are extension sockets as the master is the grey bt box outside my font door. I have 6 sockets in total 4 downstairs and 2 upstairs. I have just moved the router actually from the 1st socket in the hallway and my downstream has creeped up a little bit more to 3509kbps

Scubbie- Thanks again for your input your a real credit to these forums, i will definatly look into given those guys a call you mentioned. I dont actually plug my phone into the same socket as my router so would i actually benefit from one of those nte5 faceplates? I know i only have a 3.5mb line with my Line Attenuation downstream of 63db so could i really get anymore out of my line do you think? i haven't removed the ring wire yet but im a bit wary of touching anything at the mo as it seems to be working well

You don't have an NTE5 faceplate, nor do you need one with the arrangement that you have.

The guys a run-IT-direct should be more familiar than I am with your wiring, so please give them a friendly call. The shop closes at 5pm.

I did have a look on their web site briefly, but couldn't see a sensible solution which could help.

Thanks again scubbie, one last thing to note do you no what the best way would be to reduce my ping? I play alot of online games and the latest speedtest i ran showed my ping to be 75ms.

      Any ideas? thanks again

Resolve your connection first. It is all intricately related.

Re: Finally connected how do my line stats look?

How does it work getting sky to change my upload speed? At the mo its showing as 416kbps the engineer told me i could get up to 1mb upstream on my line. Can they change just the upstream of the line or when they change the profile does it change both? Its just my downstream speed seems to have set nicely at 3509kbps and im worried if i ask them to change the profile to try and increase my upstream it might end up giving me a lower downstream speed

      any ideas

Rather then I explain in one post, perhaps it would be better for me to direct you to a useful post where it is all explained:

Sky router stats (speed, noise, attenuation) explained

      I trust this will help.

Re: Finally connected how do my line stats look?

I have had a good read of that thanks so much for the link. For some reason i find my speed is always dropping once every 24hrs. It was running at 3424kbps and i have just got in and seen its now showing 1550kbps. I changed the filter reset the router but still it was coming up at 1550kbps, so i decided to put the old micro filter back in and again it was still syncing at 1550kbps i tried one more time rebooting it and now its showing

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream

Connection Speed 3382 kbps 605 kbps
Line Attenuation 63.0 dB 40.6 dB
Noise Margin 7.1 dB 15.2 dB

Its synced back to what it was but i dont understand why it drops out then takes a few rebootes to sync up, exode has been very helpfull in helping me in the cable & faceplate part of the forum regarding getting a filtered faceplate for my 1st extension socket which i believe is in my hallway i have also just ordered a 1m adsl cable from adsl nation to see if that makes any difference being a shorter wire.

any ideas to the issues i seem to be having?

      thanks again

Re: Finally connected how do my line stats look?

Hi m8 im just off the phone to sky my line is around the same as yours these are my old stats from 2 days ago

adsl: ADSL driver and PHY status
      Status: ShowtimeRetrain Reason: 0
Channel: FAST, Upstream rate = 135 Kbps, Downstream rate = 1898 Kbps
      Link Power State: L0
      Mode: ADSL2+
      Channel: Fast
      Trellis: U:ON /D:ON
      Line Status: No Defect
      Training Status: Showtime
      Down Up
      SNR (dB): 8.1 6.7
      Attn(dB): 62.5 34.5
      Pwr(dBm): 13.1 11.4
      Max(Kbps): 1744 132
      Rate (Kbps): 1898 135

because i was on a adsl2+ profile it was set too high and a build up of errors kept disconnecting me so i got them to cap it lower to make it stable plus its on a gaming profile new stats

Re: Finally connected how do my line stats look?

Thanks for that mate, i did actually get sky to put me on a gaming profile and i pretty much had the same stats as you have there but in doing so it dropped both my upstream and downstream so i got them to change it back. I have just ordered myself a filtered faceplate from adsl nation so im gonna see how that works out if i find it doesn't make much of a difference i was going to see if sky can maybe cap my line a 3mb as i believe at the mo its setup to allow a max of 4mb. Not sure if by capping it it will help but might be worth ago.

My noise margin downstream always drops quite a lot as well, just checked now and its showing 1.9db it still connects to the web but is very slow. The only way i can get the noise margin back up to 7db is by rebooting but even then sometimes it will shoot up to 14db!

Im just hoping i could have bt fibre sometime soon, its in our braintree exchange but according to there checker its not due to be rolled out where i am in the next 6 months at least .

Hopefully the government might make it so everywhere has to have fibre by at least 2015 but i guess i would be dreaming
