      Slow internet & disconnects

      Hey,

      Sorry if this is in the wrong section or if there is already threads like this but since Sky haven't got back to me on this I thought I'd quickly try on here for help.

      Basically the internet is just so slow. I was with Virgin before and it was way faster, so it can't be my area. It takes ages for pages to load, it takes me ages to find lobbies on the xbox & there is alot of lag. It takes ages for anything to download. I've tried changing the channel, that hasn't done anything. When I've checked the download speed it's usually between 800-2700 kbps, that is slow right? I've had Sky for about 1-2 months.

      Also the internet just disconnects for no reason. If no one is on the internet it will do it, if just one person is, if lots of people are it will. It happens at least and over 10 times a day. And it doesn't come back on unless you go to the router and unplug/plug it back it in and then it takes a while to connect back to it. It's becoming insane and unreliable.

      If you were on Virgin as in Cable BB then area can actually be the EXACT issue. Please post your router stats:

      When I've checked other times the dl speed has been as low as like 800. Before I did this thread the dl speed was exactly the same number, does it update?

      Edit- is it possible it is the router? I'm using the one sky gave us, maybe I could try my old router or get a new one? Just checked speed again and it's 1728kbps.

      Here is a test I just did;

      # Download speed : 1.45Mbps
      Upload speed : 0.33Mbps
      # Lines in your area usually support speeds of up to 5Mb over a standard telephone line (ADSL Max). This is 237.8% faster than this test shows you are getting.

      The speed of broadband provided over a standard telephone line depends on the distance between your home and the exchange. Your postcode area is 1.3km from the ****** exchange although the cable distance is likely to be longer.

      How long is it since you were activated? I ask as it looks like DLM is running on your line as your router resynced in the early hours. If DLM is still running, do not reboot your router, keep it powered up and plugged in at all times. Provided it finds no problems your speed will increase.

      You should have been advised about DLM in one oof the letters you received from Sky.

      I've had it for about 1 month. I've had no choice but to unplug the router as the internet connection is constantly lost and will only connect again if the router is unplugged. Thank you.
