      Recommended Non-Sky Router

      Hi,

Just looking for a quick bit of advice. Several months ago Sky agreed that I can use my own router (due to several issues with theirs), and I have been doing so for a while now. However it is a relatively old Thomson TG585v7 which sometimes throws a little fit and needs rebooting, but having said that it works a lot better on my (long) line than the supplied Sky router.

What I would like to know is can anyone recommend a good replacement router, preferably with gigabit ethernet ports, configurable with Telnet, and possibly Wireless N.

I had been looking at the Billion BiPAC 7800N but thought I would check what other people here think.

      Any advice would be great.

You need to find out what type of kit you are connected to

do a traceroute to www.sky.com and paste it here

      7800N if sky gear
      7402NX if easynet gear

As far as I know it's EasyNet as the Sky state that the exchange I am on does not have their SVBN equipment.

Forgot to mention as well, the router reports the DSLAM as GSPN which is Globespan / Conexant, so preferably (although not necessary) a router with a Conexant chipset.

      Re: Recommended Non-Sky Router

Sorry to hijack the thread. I had a 7402NX for ages which I sold on ebay in the end, as I had so many issues which Billion UK support weren't able to resolve.

      1) How are you finding your 7402NX?

      2) I think my exchange is an easynet one too, since the fourth tracert hop is easynet. What differences am I likely to get with the easynet backhaul??
