      Internet Connection Up and Down

      Hi,

      For the past two days, I have had nothing but problems with my broadband connection. The connection keeps dropping (wired and wireless, it says that we have limited or no connectivity - with no internet connection) and sometimes resetting the connection brings back the connection, but the majority of the time, it doesn't. When running a connection test on my Windows 7 PC & Laptop, I get the error "The DNS Server is not responding". This error is also displayed on the 2 Xbox 360's in the house. I have attached a screenshot of the router statistics. The router is plugged directly into the master (engineers?) socket. Any ideas on what is causing this?

      Have you tried plugging in the Sky router to see if it does the same? This would rule out a router problem.

      Try changing your DNS servers. On your router configuration page go to the advanced tab. Then select DNS Setup from the left hand column.

      Enable 'Use the following DNS servers'

      Preferred DNS server: 8.8.8.8
      Alternate DNS server: 8.8.4.4

      On your laptop make sure your tcp/ipv4 properties are set to obtain dns automatically.

      Thanks for the replies.

      @isitme

      I haven't as of yet. The connection has been up for 19 minutes so I'll leave it and see if it goes down again. If it goes down again, then I'll switch the router to see if it is the cause.

      I usually use openDNS (208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220) and I was switching between openDNS and the default sky nameservers during the issue and that didn't have any effect unfortunately.
