    Massive Speed Drop!

      Massive Speed Drop!

      Hi - am new to the forum. I've recently had a massive drop in download speed and am not sure why. Below are my stats from my router. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
      Connection Speed 288 kbps 825 kbps
      Line Attenuation 39.5 db 21.4 db
      Noise Margin 28.1 db 10.5 db

      Since the drop in speed, have you rebooted the router yet? If not, reboot the router and re-take the stats.

      I had already done this, but seeing as you asked, I repeated the reboot of the router. Below are the stats. Cheers!

      Connection Speed 288 kbps 828 kbps
      Line Attenuation 39.5 db 21.4 db
      Noise Margin 28.0 db 10.5 db


      As you can see, the download speed still sucks!

      There are a few potential issues that need to be illuminated. Could we therefore ask you to do the following:

      1. Swap your micro-filter with a spare, then recheck the stats

      2. Plug your router into the test socket and recheck the stats

      3. Whilst using the test socket, ensure that no other extensions are live

      4. Plug a corded telephone into the test socket and dial '1'. Listen carefully for any noise on the line, it should be crisp and clear of all noise

      Hi - thanks for the reply. I had done all of those tests already. Decided to give sky another ring last night and the guy managed to get my speed up just over 7MB. Here are my new stats.

      Connection Speed 7040 kbps 800 kbps
      Line Attenuation 34.0 db 21.5 db
      Noise Margin 7.0 db 16.0 db

      Keep an eye on it and see how it goes.
