Sky broadband disconnecting and low Noise Margin

Hay guys! I have been lurking these forums for some time, I have not really had any issues with my broadband till now.

Ok to start off I was originally on the connect package, and I am very pleased I left, I couldn't even load a youtube video at 240p, I just kept on getting capped!
So I upgraded to sky broadband unlimited, it started off great! I was up to 12MB/s and 2MB/s upload, however It just kept disconnecting, eventually DLM kicked in, and slowed my speeds down, here is what I am at now.

However I still get disconnecting issues, so I phoned up sky, and they put me back on DLM once again... and so far its just stayed the same, no changes in my speed, and still getting disconnecting issues.. I decided to do some poking around in my router and noticed my Noise Margin was low, 4.6 db, could this possibly be the wiring in my house?
I have this very old extension cable around 20 meters long, possibly longer, going from my socket all the way around the house and up to my room.
I currently have plans on buying a XTE-2005 Filtered Master Faceplate, and a Belkin Hi-Speed Internet Modem Cable, but I would like to have some advise first.

      Cheers.

Could you try connecting to the master socket?

Can you post your router stats from the master socket?

The extension cable is likely to be causing noise issues. Get rid of it and plug in the short grey dsl cable that Sky provided and fire up the stats.

If they are not any better it may be a good idea to post your stats from the test socket.

It is currently connected to the test socket.

So I decided to try the router without the extension, and here are my results.

As you can see the Noise margin has increased which is great!, and after a while it has gone up to 11db!!
So I guess it is the wiring in my house, I shall be completely replacing it next month.

Also some advise, should I phone up sky when I get the wiring sorted and ask them to boost it back up?

Re: Sky broadband disconnecting and low Noise Margin

That is still a poor speed for the attenuation. Are you using only the ADSL cable supplied by Sky? You say you have no other extensions, are you certain? Many say that then find they have a socket hidden in a bedroom cupboard or somewhere not visible. Are there any wires connected to the faceplate of the master socket? How many wires are connected to the A-B terminals at the back of the inner faceplate in the master socket?

With these stats you will get no more

Nope there are no other sockets in the house, just one, and I have been under DLM 2 times now, so that's most likely why my speeds are low atm, and yes I am currently using the ADSL cable supplied by sky.
And I dont understand what you mean, what's bad about my stats? what will stop me from getting better speeds?

Sky target a 7db noise margin. yours is only slightly higher, which means that there is almost no room fora speed improvement as it currently stands.

In regards to what is bad about your stats i think Tom was referring to the fact that he would have expected your noise margin to have been higher.
