It may help to ask Sky to check your line for problems. With these variations in the attenuation, something is definitely wrong.

Just ask them to run an openreach line test(cat test) while the BB is connected

      And then without.

If it passed when the router is not connected and fails when it is then the router is the issue.

If it fails when nothing is connected it should also say were the problem is.

Re: Sky broadband disconnecting and low Noise Margin

I did have my line tested by BT, it was a a noise test, and it passed, I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I will keep monitoring the line Attenuation, and if it continues to change, I will bring it up with Sky, so far its only changed by a .5 of a db, 25.5, and has stayed there.
But I have a fealing on what this is, the reason why it was higher on the first screenshot was because it was hooked up to the terrible extension, and the reason why it was higher without the extension was because I took the screen pretty much as soon as I booted up the router.

Re: Sky broadband disconnecting and low Noise Margin

Hay guys, I have got my wiring sorted, and I phones sky to get my speeds boosted last night, I was getting 14.5MB, but now my speeds have suddenly decreased overnight because my Line Attenuation shot up, It was originally at 24db, but now has shot up to 32db and my BB speeds has doped to 9MB, is there anything I can do? as my Line Attenuation keeps changing.

As I said earlier, it looks like a line fault. On the chance that it is your router acting up, do you have another one to try?

Nope, I have had the router for years, so I am thinking that it could possibly be the problem, the good thing that has come from getting new wiring is that the disconnecting has stopped.

Just a suggestion, but you can pick up a Sky router very cheaply on eBay. Get one which has not been flashed and there is a good chance it will connect just by plugging it in. I would recommend the Netgears rather than the Sagem.

It may not cure your problem, but it is always handy to have a spare router.

Re: Sky broadband disconnecting and low Noise Margin

Hay, just another update, here are my current stats

I am just wondering if I could possibly be under DLM? as my speeds keep changing daily.

      Day 1. 14.5MB
      Day 2. 9MB
      Day 3. 14.9MB
      Day 4. 14.2MB

Also I notice my noise margin is very low, I'm really starting to think its the router..

Re: Sky broadband disconnecting and low Noise Margin

You are showing a resync about 2 hours before the stats were taken, I doubt if that would be DLM. It is possibly your router on the way out.

Re: Sky broadband disconnecting and low Noise Margin

I hope this is not a silly question, but could the weather possibly effect my line quality? as my wiring outside my home is going to a telephone pole, and it is currently very windy, could this possibly cause issue, as the wind is blowing the wiring back and forth slightly.
