DLM Finished and not syncing as expected

      Hi all

Sky page shows line testing finished on 22nd March. Stats today from new sagem router :
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 11263 kbps 960 kbps
Line Attenuation 12.0 dB 6.5 dB
Noise Margin 21.0 dB 8.5 dB

Removed the bottom half of the faceplate and connected directly to master socket :

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 11263 kbps 960 kbps
Line Attenuation 12.0 dB 6.6 dB
Noise Margin 21.1 dB 8.0 dB

Can I do anything to improve things ?

      Thanks

Re: DLM Finished and not syncing as expected

Simply put with your attenuation you should be getting 20Mb

There is a large amount of room for improvement.

Guessing that you mean that you removed the faceplate and tried the test socket.

If your first stats are from the master socket and not the test, it looks like your internal wiring is not causing interferance.

Best bet would be to give sky a call and get them to uncap your line. You might have to tell Tier 1 that DLM capped your line very low and you know that there is room for more.

Just got off the phone to Sky and the manager there has kindly increased my speed to 19.8. Said that if he set it to 20 then i'd have problems!! :

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 19865 kbps 1018 kbps
Line Attenuation 12.0 dB 6.7 dB
Noise Margin 6.9 dB 8.5 dB

Looks like he did set it to 20Mb its just that its sync in slightly less as to be expected.

If you are on a ISAM it was probably set to 20000/1312 delays 8/8 INP 1symbol

Even so, what he has now is excellent. A nice improvement there.

      True

Easy way to tell if he is on an ISAM is that he will have both BB and phone with Sky.

Not necessarily. Many people still have Sky Talk (non-svbn) and are also connected to the 'old' stingers. Also, you can be on an ISAM and still not have Sky Talk (non-svbn) due to no ports being available on the older stingers.

Easiet way to find if you're on SVBN - Call 17070. If you get through to 'Zoe', then you're SVBN. If it's the BT line test facility, then you're not on SVBN.

Would be better if everyone was still on stingers.

More room for manual configuration for BB

Is there any real advantages of being on an ISAM?

I guess from Sky's point of view they are cheaper to maintain and run and can be easily be reconfigured for use on fibre networks. They are also IP based rather than ATM although they can still be interfaced with the old ATM setup when required.

Agree that they are cheaper to maintain.

Although they are easier to configure, they are less configurable and it's not like stingers are that much harder to configure.

Although when it comes to money i doubt our opinions mean anything.
