Unhappy Problem that has just got worse

      Hi,
I'm new on here so I'll try to give my stat's for you all.
My problem is that we have had sky broadband for about 3 year's now and the first 6 month's we used to get download speed's of 128-256kbps then it got slightly better up to 525kbps. We have alway's been in contact with Sky and we have learn't how they mess you around anyway we have had 2 netgear routers and we are now using a D-link router. Our speed had been getting upto 1.1mbps and we were happier with that. We have a Ps3 that need's thing's downloading to enjoy the full range of feature's and then the internet went upto 1.2mbps and we was well happy with it but then in the last few weeks when we get home and go on the laptop or Ps3 we kept finding that it had dropped to 300-400kbps so we turned the router off and it would go back to 1.1-1.2mbps and this worked for a while but now it has been dropping down 120kbps and will not go past 416kbps. For previous problems Sky and had Bt open reach out they put us a new line up and we was told that our line is very long, But we should definatley be getting 1mbps. We need help because speed is depressing and the router keep's losing connection and trying to re-connect aswell please can Anyone Help please

Re: Problem that has just got worse

With your attenuation you are looking at 2-3Mb max

Looks like when it was reconfigured they might have put you on DLM as well which might have saw something that it didn't like.

You have room from improvement as it stands

Were those stats from the master socket or test socket?

If they were from the master, could you connect to the test socket and re-post for comparison.

Is everything that is connected to a telephone socket got a micro filter on the end of it?

Are you using the sky supplied ADSL cable?

      Hi, Thanks for your reply.

Those stats were form the master socket. Earlier today Sky had me put the router in the test socket with the Sky supplied cable and it didn't make much difference.

I have got a face plate fitted so don't need a filter.

"Looks like when it was reconfigured they might have put you on DLM as well which might have saw something that it didn't like"
      What does this mean?

Looking at the stats I posted, I'm sure that before the attenuation was higher, Seventy something.

Re: Problem that has just got worse

If it was higher before then it looks as though you had a line fault which must now be resolved. If your attenuation was in the 70 your speed wouldn't get above 512kb

DLM = dynamic line management runs in the background monitoring the line and changing if necessary if it was put in stabilisation mode it would be like the 10 day training period that you would of had at the beginning.

What it doesn't like would be errors building or SNR fluctuations.

Re: Problem that has just got worse

Thanks, Do you know if Sky have a gaming profile?? They supposedly put me on it before, When they found out that I have a PS3. They told me that it means that less errors will build up.

When I asked about it after they told me that there isn't a gamer profile and that i'm not on a profile??

If there is one!! Would I be better on or off it?

Before my recent problem the best speed that I have ever had is about 1.2MB. A BT engineer told me that he is surprised that I get 1MB. I don't know where I stand in asking them to make my speed better. Are they fobbing me off or is that (1.2MB) the best I can really get?

They told me that my speed is headlining at 2MB. Earlier when I was on the phone to Sky they put it up to 8MB but they said it made no difference.

I feel like my hands are tied because I don't know the technical ins and outs of it all.

hi as you have said on a long line. I have noticed that on your exchange you have virgin in certain area`s do you have virgin in your area as cable would be a lot better than ADSL for long lines. The stats you gave are they from the testing connection on the inside of the socket.

No the stats are from the master socket, Test socket is not really any better. And unfortunately cable doesn't run along my road.

Hi the test connection could give more detail that is why it is ask for to see what difference there is. No matter how small.
      Pity about the cable.
