Hi, Engineer has just been. Couldn't find any problems. He changed the cable from the box to the exchange. Didn't make any difference.

Here are the stats with the router in the test socket after engineer visit,

      ROUTER STATISTICS

      System Up Time: 00:31:42
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 2417 2810 0 351 2272 00:20:25
      LAN 0 0 0 0 0 00:00:00
      WLAN 4165 3553 0 2845 589 00:20:15
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 532 kbps 412 kbps
      Line Attenuation 78.0db 50.0db
      Noise Margin 14.6db 8.0db

He said that he would tell Sky to reset my connection, That might fix problem.
He also said that there is a fiber optic box down the road. I asked Sky when they were going to get it the other day and they basically said they have no idea, Depends on when fiber optic will be available, But it is if it's down my road. Was told by engineer that BT charge 25 per Month for it, Which I can't afford.

I don't understand why my speed would drop from 1MB to less than half. Something must have changed. Engineer said that at the box down the road speed is 1.3MB.

Re: Problem that has just got worse

A suspicious me wonders if they've mucked up the cables when installing the FTTC systems.

As for FTTC it is much better, but sky still haven't launched a product yet. Nice to have in in your options for later though.

The BTO engineer was out of order for basically advising you to got to BT. They should be independent and fix the line properly.

For reference there are other ISPs who already are offering FTTC.

TalkTalk & Sky announced earlier this year that they are jointly working on developing a product line for FTTC. Both are running trials, but neither have yet launched a product.

FTTC = Fibre To The Cabinet = Download speeds of up to 40Mb, Upload speeds up to 12Mb. They average around 34Mb d/l / 7/8Mb u/l.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

Re: Problem that has just got worse

He didn't advise me, I was asking him questions about it. I asked him who does it and how much etc....
Hopefully Sky will get it pretty soon and it won't cost too much, Bet it does though.

Yeah, Maybe they did mess the cables up, I thought that too. I'm just puzzled as to what has happened with my speed. Will have to see what happens when Sky do the reset. Means waiting a few more days though which i'm not happy about. 1/2 MB is terrible. Don't now what i'm going to do if it stays like this.

You don't have to wait just call. If you have an open TTM you can be passed straight to CST who can reconfig the line.

You could even say to Tier 1 that you need a line reconfig in LAMA

Re: Problem that has just got worse

Would leave out router stats might go over Tier 1s head. If you feel the person that you got through knows what they are talking about then go for it.

If you have an open TTM or Technical Enquiry you shouldn't need to do anything.

      If they start asking:

you have tried two microfilters, the router is connected to the test socket, changed the adsl cable to a brand new one thats slightly shorter and it didn't make a difference.

Might want to say you changed it back to the sky one as it didn't make a difference.

You could also say you tried a neighbours router who is also with sky and the stats didn't change.

If they start being awkward tell them that you need someone with access to LAMA to reconfigure your line. There TL can do it or they will pass you to CST. When they are reconfiguring you need to tell them that you want it on G.DMT

Hopefully they don't use EALS to check what your line can handle as it will probs say 512kbps but on the of chance they do tell them to copy the URL for swish into a new tab and then change swish for pacman and check it with your postcode.

Let us know how it goes.

Will keep this thread open in a tab so i can check if you are having issues.

G.DMT is a line code - works much better for longer lines

Swish is a Tier 1 tool for checking if a port is up (your internet working)
they type in your telephone number and data circuit ID to see if your are connected with the exchange and see the speed that you are currently getting.

Pacman is another Tier 1 system for checking what speed a line is capable of both on G.DMT and ADSL2+

Sorry was being dumb when i replied earlier and didn't read your post clearly.

Re: Problem that has just got worse

Just come off the phone to Sky. He rang me back after he'd tried different things. No better....

He tried the G.DMT profile and said that it made it worse. He seemed to know what he was on about. He said that he will pass it on to someone higher up and that they will probably send another engineer out to look in more detail.

He said that there are a lot of errors on the line. All he tried, He couldn't get it any better. He seemed to think that there is a fault on the line, Although the engineer said it was okay.

As it is 1.3MB at the box down the road (About 1000 meters away) and it's 400kbps here, It's losing a lot there. What do you think?

On the Sky/Open reach not so merry go round AGAIN........
