    Slow speed

      Slow speed

      Hi y'all,
      I have unlimited broadband and have been with Sky for about 9 months. I regularly got about 10mb download speeds but recently it's dropped to about 1mb. I don't know if it's related but last week I had an issue with the phone line being dodgy and an engineer came and sorted it. My router stats are:

      System Up Time: 0:32:08
      Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN MER 54090 84743 0 60 191 0:30:56
      LAN 182 0 0 0 0 0:32:08
      WLAN 97110 65936 0 281 106 0:31:41
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
      Connection Speed 1535 kbps 415 kbps
      Line Attenuation 28.5 db 15.0 db
      Noise Margin 15.1 db 20.5 db

      Oh and on the My Broadband section on Sky's website it says:
      Line connection testing completed on 15/03/2011
      Download Speed

      Your connection has been set to a download speed of up to
      1.5Mb (1536Kb)
      Upload Speed

      Your connection has been set to an upload speed of up to
      0.4Mb (416Kb)

      So if anyone can advise me I'd appreciate it :-)

      Plug into your Test socket if you have one and post your stats. With your attenuation you should get around 14 Mb. If you don't have one call Sky and ask them to reprofile your line as DLM has left it very low. Post back with the result.
      How to test your ADSL in the Master Test Socket

      The line problems you have had probably caused DLM to kick in and set your speed ridiculously low.

      Right I've plugged it into the test socket and the stats are now:

      It may be better to ask them to run DLM training again. This will increase your speed and reset the speed on your MySky page. I think a manual reset will leave the "Your connection has been set to a download speed of up to1.5Mb (1536Kb)" which may cause problems for you in future.

      Thanks guys, I rang them last night and they did whatever they did and it's up to about 8mb speeds now. Isitme do you recommend doing that in case it drops again or could I be getting even faster speeds now?

      With your attenuation you should get around 13-14 Mb. My main point about running DLM was that this would change your 'set speed' I don't think this happens when it is done manually. Check what it says in your broadband details now, I could be wrong but I think it will still show 1.5Mb.

      Let us have a look at your present stats.

      Yeah you're right it does still say the same thing on mysky.
      My current stats are:

      System Up Time: 16:13:26
      Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN MER 1439517 1813212 0 230 268 14:44:23
      LAN 182 0 0 0 0 16:13:26
      WLAN 1892316 1521182 0 130 107 16:12:59
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
      Connection Speed 10238 kbps 798 kbps
      Line Attenuation 28.0 db 14.7 db
      Noise Margin 8.6 db 16.9 db

      But I just did another speed test and in the last few minutes it's dropped back to 1.5mb

      I wonder if your exchange is one of those being effected by backhaul problems?

      Are you still in the Test socket?
