Does downloading after a certain time affect your monthly limit?
Basically, I was wondering if downloading after certain times, such as 1am, would have an affect on my monthly (40GB) limit.
I have recently purchased a new game which I need to download, but is 9GB in file size and I would like to know if it is possible to download this without putting myself at risk of having my internet speeds capped. I tend to do most of my large downloads at night after peak times but I have still been getting capped for excessive use.
Does anyone have a solution to this? Am I able to freely download in the early hours of the night and not be put at risk of having my speed capped?
Regards, Sam.

Re: Does downloading after a certain time affect your monthly limit?
as far as im aware theres no 'non counted download' times.
all downloads go towards your usage limit for that month
also as your on the 'connect' service i dont believe there is an unlimited package?

Re: Does downloading after a certain time affect your monthly limit?
So this will inevitably leave my internet speed capped as I only have two options then: 1. Download the game and like it or lump it having my internet speed being slowed to around 10kb/s for around a week. 2. Not download the game and realise I've just wasted £20.
Is there nothing else I can do?

Your best bet is to check if any LLU providers are available on your exchange and switch over to one of them. Sky Connect is rubbish.

Not a great idea but heard before of downloading through a download manager over a few days.
Therefore not exceeding the 1.3Gb a day allowance.
Best bet would be to follow Exdees advice and find an LLU provider.Links Router Stats Useful Tutorials Speed Test Check For Test Socket Repetitive Electrical Impulse Noise

Re: Does downloading after a certain time affect your monthly limit?
In case an LLU provider is not available, there are providers that can do what you originally asked.
I used to be with Eclipse. On their Home Pro product their policy is:
* Upload is not included in the monthly limits
* 11pm to 9am the bandwidth is not measured
There are many other providers that could probably offer other competitive solutions.
BT uses a traffic management policy that restricts Torrents. It also reduces your available bandwidth by allocating some towards BT Openzone, BT Fon & the 'extra' phone line that is made available through the BT HomeHub v2.

Re: Does downloading after a certain time affect your monthly limit?
Yeah, Connect was the only Sky package in my area as I live quite rurally and I can only get speeds of up to 3MB.
SamKnows - Broadband Availability - Barton Under Needwood (EMBARTO) Exchange is my local exchange, it says LLU providers are available, yet when I use the LLU Exchange List on the same website, I cannot find the exchange there. I think we are still in a contract with Sky (not sure for how long, but we switched from O2 2 months ago).

EDIT: Ah, it actually says that there is 1 LLU provider on my exchange, my bad.

Re: Does downloading after a certain time affect your monthly limit?
As TalkTalk is your only option, it may be worth investigating whether you can change to them.
There are various tips on this forum on what to do in order to collect evidence so that you can leave Sky Connect early, without penalty.
An important issue that some people complain about with TalkTalk is their retention of your telephone number should you leave them at a future date.
Although this is against Ofcom regulations, you should be aware of this issue. Technically if you write to them when you decide to leave, they should allow you to keep the number you have.
