      Re: Moving problems

For the sky password generator tool, do I input the mac address as c8:cd:72:90:cb:fb like in the router interface or without the : and in capitals like the base of the router? Also where it asks for the Default WPA network key in that sky password generator is that the sky broadband wireless password that I input or the name of the wireless network? I won't be using wireless anyway as the the modem and PC will be close to a telephone point.

without the colons, shouldn't be case sensitive, WPA key is the password on the bottom of the router

I don't think it matters, the best way is to copy and paste it direct from the router status page into the generator, this leaves no chance of a mistake. The WPA key is case sensitive and should be all capital letters, no numbers.

      Re: Moving problems

Thanks for the reply, I'll bear it mind should I get problems, but the router and connection seem fine. At first I could only get 3.5MB d/l as I was syncing at 4mb, but after a couple of phone calls they put me on a gamer profile and upped the synch, so now I'm synching at

      DownStream Connection Speed 19998 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 1142 kbps

Is is likely to get slightly faster than 17MB or is that the max I'm going to get?

      Re: Moving problems

Looks about right with the 10-15% overheads taken into consideration.

      Are you connecting wirelessly?

      Your ping isn't great.

If so you can check with ethernet and see if there is any improvement.

      Re: Moving problems

No, I'm already connecting through ethernet. I noticed the lowest pings on one of my favourite games I play had increased from about 17-18ms with Plusnet to 29-30ms with Sky Unlimited.

      Re: Moving problems

Not sure if Plusnet use Fastpath but it may explain the difference.

      Re: Moving problems

Yes I had interleaving turned off with Plusnet so that may well be the difference.

      Re: Moving problems

Sounds like you were on Fastpath with Plusnet.

It defiantly would explain the difference in ping times, unfortunately Sky don't support Fasthpath.

      Re: Moving problems

It's a shame, but I'm getting almost 3x the d/l and u/l speeds I was getting with Plusnet, plus there's no throttling, so overall I'm happy.
