      Slow Connect speed.

      Hi,

I have the same issue as you.

I am also a new client and everyday i need to reset it, although there were a few times where i needed to do it more than once in a day.

Lately i also noticed a decrease in speed, just run a test in speedtest.net and the results were:

      ping = 69ms
download speed = 1.27Mbps (it should be between 5Mb and 8Mb)
      upload speed = 0.35 Mbps

I' ve tried calling but apparently the technical support closes at 19h and so far I've been in the queue without luck...

So, there are my stats on the test socket (MASTER) , hopefully you can give me your opinion on the issue:

      Router Statistics:

      System Up Time: 00:16:39
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 534 433 0 514 538 00:01:17
      LAN 0 0 0 0 0 00:00:00
      WLAN 14300 12878 0 12981 3594 00:15:56

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7616 kbps 448 kbps
      Line Attenuation 40.0db 22.5db
      Noise Margin 6.4db 20.0db

      Modem info:

      ADSL Firmware Version A2pD030i.d22k
      Modem Status ADSL Link Up
      DownStream Connection Speed 7616
      UpStream Connection Speed 448
      VPI 0
      VCI 38

The only thing i can notice a difference during these days is on the noise margin which i saw many times before with a negative value for downstream, not sure if related.

      Cheers!

      Re: Slow Connect speed.

Do an official BT speed test before the peak period and after and post the results.

Your main problem is you are on the worst broadband package in UK, have a look through the forum for Connect problems. This is a good place to start-

      Thanks for the quick reply.

      Re: Slow Connect speed.

Well, the BT speed test does not work.

On the same website, I ran the "check line results":

      RAG Code: GGEC
      Fixed: 1Mbps and 2Mbps available
RA ADSL: 512kbps and 256kbps available
      Exch Info: Exchange ADSL enabled
Line Info: Compatibility issue found. This could be several things eg. existing ADSL connection, pending ADSL order on line, ISDN, DACS, TPON, LLU, some alarm systems.

I'll have to call Sky about this not happy at all on having to reset the router every single day.....

      Cheers,

      Re: Slow Connect speed.

Leeds and Pudsey exchanges, if one of these is yours, are enabled for Sky LLU. Tell them you want moved to the Unlimited service immediately or you will consider moving to another ISP..

      Re: Slow Connect speed.

There has apparently been some issue recently with connect customers starting on Fastpath

Especially since you are a new customer you could have incorrectly been placed on this.

Being on Fastpath has been know to cause your internet light to go solid amber

Not sure if the stats in the D-Link router will tell you if your are on Fastpath but maybe someone else on here, will be able to advise

You can check in the stats and make sure beside channel it says Interleaved

      1. It's not immediate
      2. They might be out of ports

Call and enquire, though, but do not demand anything. Be nice and it'll get you further. Might actually get more sense out of sales as opposed to Tech

      1. It's not immediate
I know the move will not be immediate, but what should he say. I would like to be moved to LLU when it suits you, any time will do. I will put up with this rubbish service and pay you over the odds for it for as long as you would like to charge me.

      2. They might be out of ports
Then he should be told that and not fobbed off with stupid excuses.

Why should he not demand to be put on to the best service available? We are not talking about trying to get help for a fault in the connection where agents can take the hump and refuse to help. I know very often you have have to be nice to get anything done with your connection, but why bend over again when you have been shafted to begin with.

      Re: Slow Connect speed.

If someone comes on the phone and is aggressive and demanding then they're less likely to get someone willing to help them - this is how I've always worked as I won't help someone who's being rude to me. I'd rather hang up on them then put up with it.

If you speak to someone as you wish to be spoken to then you'll get people willing to help you. I'm not saying you have to accept it but a bit of thought and politeness goes a LONG way. 2 examples:

"I'm on Connect and want to moved to LLU NOW" - unlikely to get someone wanting to help

"Hello, I'm currently on the Connect Broadband package and believe my exchange has been enabled for the Unlimited package. Is there a chance of getting moved over?" - Will get someone wanting to help

Agreed. I probably worded my advice badly. He should say, PLEASE move me immediately to LLU or give an estimate of when I will be moved or I will move to another ISP.
