Soon to be on Sky Unlimited

Hello all, I'm due to go live on 23rd March. I will be on sky unlimited, phone line rental and sky talk. I needed to save a few pennies, so it was a toss up between Sky and TalkTalk.

I'm currently on BT for line rental and calls and Cable&Wireless LLU for broadband.

My router turned up this morning at 7:30am! It's a Sagemcom F@ST2304N. I had a quick look around the settings, changed the default ESSID and password.

      Firmware 5.12.4a4n
      ADSL Firmware A2pD030n.d23b

Also got a letter from BT this morning confirming I'm leaving them.

      Hope everything goes OK

      Welcome to the club.

Sometimes there may be a few startup issues, but generally things go without too many problems. Normally you can expect a short break in your connection when transfering to Sky LLU. Normally this will be about an hour or so.

There were some issues earlier this year with speeds in some parts of the country, but your area wasn't affected.

      Things should be fun now.

OK, migration has gone ahead at 12:30 this afternoon.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4093 kbps 605 kbps
Line Attenuation 47.5 dB 28.2 dB
Noise Margin 7.1 dB 14.3 dB

No extension wiring exists in the house. Just an NTE5 and router in test socket with filter.

I usually use an ADSLNation filtered faceplate in normal day to day use.

Re: Soon to be on Sky Unlimited

You noise margin looks fine, but the attenuation is very high, indicating that you are far from the exchange or the line quality isn't brilliant.

What speed did you receive previously?

What do you get if you plug the Filtered faceplate back in?

I would hope that things will improve, but I don't have the knowledge to confirm that.

It may be that transferring to ADSL, instead of ADSL2+, will be better for you.

Speeds aren't going to go much higher at all after DLM.

Actually the opposite, noise margin should be higher as the line should be good for around double it's current speed. As it stands there's nothing else to be had so either a long extension lead is in use of there's a line fault

Re: Soon to be on Sky Unlimited

Best thing to do would be to connect your router to the Test Socket with a new filter.

Also ensure that you are using the sky supplied grey ADSL cable.

Once you have done that could you post your stats again.

Your line should be good for around 6-8Mb
