Hi BB - thanks for the reply.
When you say filters in sockets that are in use - do you mean all ones with something connected in - as I only use one as my phones are wireless.
      Sorry if this sounds daft.
      Regards
      Woody

That's right. No need to filter an unused socket.

If you want to plug anything into the Telephone socket, then a Micro-filter must be the first item. This is also true of the Sky STB lead (the splitter supplied by the Installation engineer implies differently, but ignore that label).

Wireless telephones normally use only the one socket. In this instance it is reasonable to not have the Micro-filters in extensions which are not used.

Once we've identified the problem, it might be useful to investigate the option of fitting a Filtered Faceplate. If wired properly, the only place in your home that will be able to receive the ADSL signal would be the Master Socket and all other extensions will no longer require a Micro-Filter.

      Re: Advice of router stats

      Hi all

I have removed all items in the sockets apart from the router which is now plugged in to the master socket.
My stats have improved to the below:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7550 kbps 509 kbps
Line Attenuation 38.0 db 18.5 db
Noise Margin 7.6 db 19.4 db

I did get 8mb earlier but that seems to have reduced a little.
Should I be satisfied with the below.

Once again - thanks for all the advice to date.
      Woody

      Leave it in there overnight.

Hopefully DLM will pick up the changes and do some work overnight now.

      Re: Advice of router stats

      Morning all

      These are this morning's stats

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7999 kbps 509 kbps
Line Attenuation 38.0 db 22.1 db
Noise Margin 7.2 db 19.0 db

Obviously it is better than when I started but should I be getting anymore?

      Thanks as ever.

It looks as though nothing significant occurred last night. The d/l noise margin has changed only slightly. This is within the tolerance of time of day differences in my mind.

Your line attenuation has stayed constant too. Theoretically the speed esitimater on this site suggests a speed of between 9-10Mb for this attenuation, but things might be a little lower in practise.

Again the u/l seems to have been capped at 509.

Could you confirm that you router was rest during the night? Typically DLM caused the WAN time to show that it was reset around 2-3am.

      Re: Advice of router stats

Hi Scubbie - thanks for the reply.

When you say "Could you confirm that you router was rest during the night?"
Do you mean left on etc? I left it on overnight (and do leave it on permanently these days).
      My current stats are
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7900 kbps 509 kbps
Line Attenuation 38.5 db 22.2 db
Noise Margin 7.5 db 18.8 db

This is now plugged in the lounge socket as I need to rig the router up to the Sky box for Anytime+

      Regards
      Woody

I am assuming that the lounge socket is the master socket?

If it isn't, then it may be worth considering the purchase of a couple of HomePlugs to connect your Sky STB to the router.

Looking back I think i meant to ask if you were using the test socket last night.

Also is there any difference in the figures between the test socket & the master socket (i.e. with the faceplate)?

Whilst the router is connected to the test socket, is your extension/s live or dead?
