    Sky Router and Email setting

This is a discussion on Sky Router and Email setting within the Sky Broadband help forums, part of the Sky Broadband help and support category; It's not clear if Sky will allow users to use their SMTP servers? It looks like its web based only. ...

I have always used web based email like yahoo and gmail because its easily accessible from anywhere in the world.

They won't get many migrations from PlusNet if they stick to webmail only. Asking a PlusNet customer to trust an ISP to store their mail is like asking an American to trust Osama's new airline, 'EasyFlamingBallOfVengeanceJet', for all their holiday travel needs

I actually would never use ISP mail be it web based or SMTP.

I've had bad experiences with both of them. Yahoo and Gmail have not let me down (yet).

Luckily I have access to a couple of SMTP servers through work and others that I can use if there isn't one available from the ISP, but many people won't. I know Sky do state that the products aren't for business use but there are many people who have a need to manage their email locally for personal use (or simply by preference), and not providing at least an SMTP server for them to send outgoing mail is excessively restrictive. If that is the case then it should at least be stated somewhere clearly in the product description, the ability to email is taken for granted as part of a service these days.

i think the general concensus is that there will be no smtp mail with Sky broadband - which is a bit of a bummer, but even with all the savings, to get a dedicated hosting package as well (from a different supplier), you would still save money.

Notice all the "how to " support files regarding outlook are no longer accessible on sky's support pages...strange?

Anyway managed without them once I'd got the mail server addys

      Thanks guys
