      Downloads and browsing pathetic

High all I have noticed over the last six months that downloads were becoming virtually non existent or so pathetic not worth bothering with usenext. Signed up with sky 3 years ago on the understanding that we would get the top of the range sky internet package when it became available in our area, so took out sky btconnect at the time. 3 years on still no other option available and now downloads so pathetic I have almost given up. Tried to VPN into the office tonight even that was so slow it would of been quicker to drive back, when trying to browse with the mrs on her laptop took 5 minutes to get to homepage. Looked at router statistics cannot see much wrong and speed tests seem to produce the standard results for this package. I have read several articles on traffic shaping and throttling and think we are suffering from this. Would appreciate any advice on how to prove this and what I may be able to do about it.

Take several speedtests within and outside the peak time. Make sure they are timed and dated so you can present them to Sky as proof of your claim. The only speed test Sky will accept is the official BT one.
      Test Result

With this proof they have no alternative but to allow you to leave without penalty. Sky will blame BT, but don't believe it. it is Sky's doing, if they paid BT more they would get a better service.

Hi have you had a look at your exchange. On connect it can take ages between 4pm and Midnight. But as Tom said the Bt test is the only Test Sky will take an notice of. Here`s a link that you might find useful (Unofficial) FAQ - Sky Connect Users

Try it outwith the peak period and see what you get. It is about the busiest speedtester in UK so it is sometimes difficult to get a result.

      Re: Downloads and browsing pathetic

Have spoken with sky tonight with very little success, lady has suggested that somebody will be in touch in the near future lol. Read an interesting post about traffic monitoring in the terms and conditions and the throttling of p2p etc etc suggested this to sky oh no no no was the reply. Decided after many years as a loyal customer that they can stick their whole package where the sun don`t shine and i`m gonna find something less boring to do instead.
why ooh why do we bother with these so called companies!!!!!

You are unfortunate that you are not really on Sky, but BT. Those on Sky LLU, with a few exceptions, find it an excellent service.

If you have an LLU provider on your exchange, go for them, if you don't, have a look at Plusnet, they are doing some good deals and manage their BT connections a lot better than Sky.
