    DLM Not Started - Line Active for 6 Days

      DLM Not Started - Line Active for 6 Days

      Hi all,

      Could I ask some advice? My BB got activated on the 1st March and since then my stats have been as follows:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
      Connection Speed 4095 kbps 605 kbps
      Line Attenuation 15.0db 9.5db
      Noise Margin 15.5db 15.9db


      I have been wondering when things were going to start changing as I assumed DLM had started, but when I logged onto mysky, it says the following:

      Your Connection Details
      Check back here for updates.
      Line testing is not currently in progress.


      So by this I assume that DLM has not yet started?

      I just spoke to someone at Sky, but they didn't fill me with confidence that they knew what they were talking about (at first they told me that I had got my mothers maiden name wrong - turns out they were looking on the wrong account!).... they said that it should be sorted in the next 3-4 days and didn't seem to grasp that DLM may not have started.

      Any thoughts on next steps? Persevere trying to get them to start DLM? Waiting and seeing what happens isn't in my nature- I like things to happen sooner rather than later!!!

      The DLM system had a blip recently and some lines are taking longer than usual to hit the profile optimisation period. Leave it alone until the 11th and then give them a ring (08442410515) if there is still no movement.

      Call Sky 08442 414141. There has been a number of reports on this forum already in the last few days describing this situation.

      Apparently there has been a hiccup at Sky's end over the automated process of placing new connections on DLM.

      In the mean time, you may wish to look at connecting your router to the Master Socket as the Noise Margin is quite high. If this is the case, try the Test Socket to see if it reduces.

      Post your figures back here to let us know how you get on.

      Scubbie, at this point, the higher the noise margin the better. When DLM starts profiling the line, the bit rate will rise and the SNRs will drop to the target (7dB).

      Ok.

      The attenuation is excellent though. Should be expecting around 17Mb+ connection.

      thanks for replies guys... will call again on friday evening if still no joy.

      out of interest I thought I'd look at the test socket... slightly improved stats - I assume the difference is nothing out of the ordinary though?

      Meh, not really much improvement to shout about. Attenuation slightly decreased and SNR raised slightly (whether that's just normal SNR fluctuation is another thing), nothing major.

      If you're happy enough keeping it in the test socket for the time being, then do that. Once the line has been reprofiled, whether that be through DLM or Sky manually if you have to call in, then move it back to the master socket. If you see worse results, then buy a filtered faceplate and run the router off that.

      Hi...Cresswell80

      I was in the same situation as you..My broadband was activated on the 4th..
      I rang sky this morning asking about DLM and they started it as I was on the phone..
      Even watched it start on my router stats page as I spoke to them...
