hey just a thought, if the routers stats: down = 2048 and up = 512 does this simply mean that these figures are what i can get at the moment or i am getting. as speedtest obviously shows different results at different times.

i understand i can get a lot more due to the response you originally gave.

They'll not understand what you are saying & flatly refuse to believe that they had anything to do with the firm.

      Try this option instead:

      TPS Registration

A similar one is available for the post too:

      MPS online

I love asking them if I can speak to their manager as they are in breach of the Data Protection Act. Whether true or false, they soon hang up.

Re: Newbie: Check my stats + long winded!

i received a phone call from a "company" working on behalf of sky/bt/virgin ect who could eradicate all the problems associated with my pc to make my net run faster..... after this and some scripts and "teamviwer.com" they supposedly would provide a full service and full antiv virus program for 9 years for the low low cost of 120.
Sounds like a different take on the 'we are calling from Microsoft as we have discovered a problem with your PC'. The first couple I got I played him along a bit, wasting his time, then eventually asked for his name as I was a Microsoft employee and would have to report him to Redmond. In a very Asiatic accent he said 'Dave Allen'. I almost laughed out loud as I hung up. Now I just tell them to go away, although not in these words. The tragedy is that they must be snaring some people or it would not be continuing.

Re: Newbie: Check my stats + long winded!

still havent got round to getting those homeplugs i cannot justify spending 60-100 for the sake of a few mb as well as the bb subscription

but on another note, havent spoken to sky in over 2weeks in any shape or form and here are my current stats.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4014 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 55.5 db 29.4 db
Noise Margin 8.1 db 11.0 db

      as opposed to my previous

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2048 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 52.0 db 29.5 db
Noise Margin 20.2 db 22.0 db

i doubt this will last but will see, its still connected to the secondary line not the main.

Re: Newbie: Check my stats + long winded!

Hopefully this is the speed that you'll settle down with now.

As for the HomePlugs, don't worry too much about them for the present.

Now that you know that there is an alternative to a single long Ethernet cable to run from the router to your PC is perhaps reassuring. It means that there is an alternative to drilling holes, for example, and you are aware of it.

15m & 20m Ethernet cables used to cost around 15-20. They are considerably cheaper now if you buy on-line.

Also don't look at this as more expense towards your BB, but rather a longer term investment as you can use either the Cable or the HomePlugs with future Internet connections, not just Sky.

      They shouldn't have reverted back

Think it might be time to call again and ask for your profile to be set at 4096/416 delays 16/16 INP 1symb or preferably one with more upload.

Think that there may be one with an upload of 800

Re: Newbie: Check my stats + long winded!

Your line needs to be set to G.DMT and left there. This would give you a consistent 4-5Mb. As soon as DLM is turned on it will swap back to ADSL2+, find the errors on your line and knock your speed back.
