      Internet connection drop outs

      Hi,

I have just started having major connection issues with Sky BB, and I am trying to get to the bottom of it before phoning and talking to Sky or BT. I have been with Sky BB for about4 years and this has been the first issue.
My router is connected to my master socket with an ADSL faceplate (havent connected directly to master socket yet as its behind a cabin bed). I have tried 2 different modems but with same dropout results. I have unplugged sky boxes but still same. See Router stats attached. The only thing I can find causing noise is the 1571 service doing its two tone thing but there are no messages. Any help appreciated as I work from home and need a stable connection. Thanks in advance

      Re: Internet connection drop outs

I am assuming that you may not have changed the ADSL cable in changing between the routers for the same reason that you haven't gained access to the socket.

Could I suggest this needs to be eliminated, as well as testing in the Test Socket?

Sorry, never even thought of the cable, just assumed that because its been ok for nearly 4 years it couldnt be it. I will try a different cable in the test socket and see if it continues to drop out. Looks like I am disassembling a cabin bed this afternoon !

      Thanks

If changing the cable doesn't work you could try turning of as many electrical items as possible to try and eliminate REIN.

Or alternatively you could get a portable radio and tune it into 612khz to check for REIN

To help crack the terminology: REIN means Repetitive Electrical Impulse Noise

      ::. Kitz - REIN .::

      Typical REIN sources

This list is not exhaustive but common culprits could be:

A current imbalance between two power carrying conductors (Earth leakage fault).
Faulty thermostats (Central heating, Immersion heaters).
Electrical power supply units (Laptops, Routers, Plasma TVs).
Industrial/Commercial power usage (Electric Railways, Electric fences, Electric motors).
Decorative electrical items (Christmas tree lights, Touch lights).
Security systems (PIR lights switching on and off).
Digital Communication Receivers (Satellite and Freeview set top boxes).
Internal power and telecoms cables run close together at the End User.

Don't worry. The acronym didn't mean anything to myself so I did a quick search. As for sticking all these links in signatures, I don't myself as signatures can be altered easily, making some answers difficult to follow later.

      Re: Internet connection drop outs

Ok, the story so far. Have connected to the master socket and monitored with router stats for about a week with nothing else plugged in. Tried 2 different micro filters and still dropouts, but when I spoke to Sky they said my connection has been up for x amount of days but I can see by router stats that the connection dropped quite a few times in that period when the noise drops and the sync speed changed to 0 then back online again, can this happen and Sky see no change in connection ? Thanks for your help, this is really starting to bug me.

Did you purchase and install the BT 80B RF3 Junction Box?
