I'm on O2 and get about 12Mb and generally good pings? Can I expect to retain my ping/speed when I move to Sky unlimited?

Re: Any other ex O2 users here?

I moved from the O2 Home Premium Legacy Package to Sky Broadband Unlimited and so far its been fine ping times are comparable but Sky have put me on the Gamer Profile so not sure if that helps a great deal or not.

I do play World of Warcraft a lot and havent noticed any difference and ping times seem very similar with my friend who is still on O2.

This is what I was getting on O2.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 21230 kbps 1304 kbps
Line Attenuation 16.0 db 6.3 db
Noise Margin 6.3 db 7.1 db

This is what I am getting on Sky at the moment.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 19997 kbps 1146 kbps
Line Attenuation 15.5 dB 8.9 dB
Noise Margin 7.1 dB 10.1 dB

The lower sync is probably due to the default noise margin Sky use and I dont think O2 capped my sync like Sky seem to.

adsl2+ can handle up to 24 but for some reason sky only go up to 20

the main difference that you will have between sky and o2 is that ur SNR will be set at 7 compared to the 6 that is used by 02.

not sure about 02 but sky wont offer fastpath just a gamer profile setting your max delays at 8ms

I went the other way from Sky to O2.
For the reasons stated above your sync will be slightly less on Sky, although tbh its not much and imho its wouldnt be a decision swayer.
I was on the Sky gamer profile and my average ping was @33, with O2 its 22.

Think the best ping time that i have ever heard of is on virgin 50Mb package got a mate that gets a 5ms ping and 12 to european servers.

admittedly that is not a common ping time and really is overkill

Re: Any other ex O2 users here?

      Hi

I moved from O2 to Sky because of O2's laughable traffic management policy. While this is not an issue with Sky at all, my download speed is 1.5Mbs less than O2 and upload speed has almost halved and the ping has gone from 42ms to 85ms!

Following advice from other members on the forum I'll be contacting Sky in an attempt to reconfigure some of the settings manually.

If the traffic management policy wasn't an issue for you with O2, then I'd stick with them.

Re: Any other ex O2 users here?

Depending if your on an ISAM or DSLAM will limit what your upload can be set to, due to profiling.

I am not 100% sure on the profiles available but i am sure user5 can give you a better idea on profiles that are available if your do happen to be on an ISAM

as stated before the interleave can be set to an 8ms max delay unfortunately no fast path

if you are not an SVBN customer then things are likely to be better for increasing your upload

if you can post up a full set of stats when can have a look and see what can be done for both the upload and the interleave

Wait, shouldn't ISP's give you the best settings without having to ask?

They give you the best settings with a stable connection (or try to, DLM sometimes goes a bit squiffy)
