      Sky Slow Compared to O2

      Hi

I'm hoping someone can advise me on this. Because of their laughable traffic management policy on gaming, I recently moved from O2 where I was getting 5.5Mbs download and 0.9 Mbs upload with an average ping of 42ms.

With Sky I'm only getting around 4.3Mbs down and 0.5Mbs up and the ping has gone up to an average of 85ms.

My router stats are posted below. Does if appear that Skay have put a cap on the speed? I have the router plugged into the test socket and via ethernet not wireless. In other people;a opinon is it worth contacting Sky about this?

      Many thanks

Re: Sky Slow Compared to O2

      1. Sky use a 7db noise margin, o2 use 6db, so sync speed won't be as high
      2. The upstream noise margin is a tad high so a call to Sky would sort that out
      3. The same call could also lower your delay settings to help lower the pings

I'm glad I'm on a legacy o2 package, don't get no slow down and still unlimited

Re: Sky Slow Compared to O2

looks like your max delay is set at 32 getting that changed to 8ms should help with the gaming

are you trying to game on the same server that you used with o2/ same server location ie uk?

Re: Sky Slow Compared to O2

      Hi

Thanks for reply, yes absolutely nothing has changed since changing over from O2 to Sky.

Also, wot would be a reasonable noise upload noise margin to ask Sky to request to set?

      Thanks

Sky's target minimum Noise Margin is 7dB. Some members have reported slightly less, but CST won't set this on your router, so only DLM can help here.

Obviously what you actually get will depend on your line quality.

so his/her line quality is good enough for o2 but not for sky? that makes no sense whatsoever.

seriously though, half the answers on here don't make any sense

Perhaps you should be less argumentative and little more sensible.

Perhaps you should also understand a little more about what actually happens with telephone wiring when people change ISP.

If the answers don't make any sense to you, then perhaps they weren't written with you in mind.

no 'wiring' took place when I switched over from talk talk to bt and yet bt's highest package is faster
