      Questions about Unlimited

      Currently I'm with BE on their 8mb plan. This is the speed I'm currently getting;

      ... On these stats;

      Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 883 / 8,188

      Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.0

      Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 16.5 / 30.5

      SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.0 / 8.5

      I'm thinking of switching to Sky's Unlimited Package. What is the likelihood my speed will increase vastly and be near enough 20mb, bearing in mind that I'm 1 mile away from my exchange ?

      You won't be near 20Mbps, nearer 16Mbps at the top end. Better than you are now, though

      With an attenuation of 30.5 you should get 12-14Mb. But with a noise margin of only 8.5dbs and a sync of 8188, I would say there is something wrong with your line. Your sync speed or noise margin should be a lot higher, as things stand you will not get much more.

      The OP says they are on the BE up to 8MB plan which was ADSL not ADSL2+ so the stat's are reasonable.

      No offence, but I do not think you understand the figures. If he is on up to 8Mb, his speed must be capped lower than the lines potential. With his attenuation he would have a potential speed of 12-14 Mb. As it is capped down, this should be reflected in a much higher noise margin. It is not, so his line is suspect.

      I am pretty sure although he is on 'up to 8Mb', he is on ADSL2+, as shown by his bandwidth figures.
