      New Activation

I have migrated from O2 to Sky and just got activated today.

Should I expect a similar connection to what I had with O2? I understand Sky use a higher noise margin which will reduce it slightly compared to O2 but thought I would check.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4095 kbps 605 kbps
Line Attenuation 15.5 dB 9.1 dB
Noise Margin 14.7 dB 21.4 dB

I just need to wait for DLM to do its stuff I guess.

These are the stats I had on O2.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 21230 kbps 1304 kbps
Line Attenuation 16.0 db 6.3 db
Noise Margin 6.3 db 7.1 db

As long as after DLM I sync at 20xxx kbps then I will be happy.

      Thanks.

      John

Not a lot we can say at the moment. Leave it the 10 days for DLM to do it's stuff. Once DLM has finished, your noise margin should be 6.9dB so you should get very close to 20Mb.

Out of interest why did you leave O2?

      Re: New Activation

I was on a legacy broadband package and they put the prices up or wanted to move me onto one of the newer packages.

Sky Broadband was already cheaper before the price rise and as I had Sky TV already having Anytime+ and Sky Player swayed me towards Sky.

This way I save about 5 per month and get a few extras too.

I cant fault O2's service though the home phone and broadband was top quality and they let you use your own router.

      Re: New Activation

I'm still on a legacy package - up to 8Mbps, unlimited downloads

They can't change your package unless you agree to it so as long as you didn't agree to change package they couldn't have done anything about it. You won't see that same upload on Sky and possibly not as fast downstream due to Sky using higher SNRs
