Main exchange is near the main train station so the closer to there the better. Your new post code is about 3Km from the exchange by road so you may not get full speed, possibly 5-6Mb but without router stats we can only guess.

      Hi

      Thanks for the answer.

Cant give router information yet as I have not moved in, still looking at options.

Is sky truly unlimited with out capping and shaping?

What is the best option to take.

      Thanks

Sky Unlimited is what it says. It is not capped or throttled ,except temporarily in some exchanges where they are having problems. These will eventually be fixed.

Connect is a different kettle of fish and should not be touched, even with a barge pole.

      Re: Braintree Essex Help

      Hi

When I originally posted this thread I had checked the online speed checker on the Sky site which confirmed what someone above had said that I should get about 6 Megs in speed.

I have checked today 12/3/2011 and it now says it will only get 2 megs of speed, is there a reason the checker has changed to 4 megs less than orginally?

As having 2 megs is really not an option and this on tha max option, any ideas?

Dont in anyway want to go with BT but when i ;ast cheked they said something like 5 or 6 megs, I know I can get BT infinity now but still would like Sky.

The house has not moved any further from the exchange so cant see why the Meg speeds have dropped.

      Thanks in advance.

      Re: Braintree Essex Help

If the house you are purchasing/renting is listed on Right Move they are starting to post the speeds that you are likely to get according to BT.

Not to sure why the site would have changed unless there is an issue in the area.

      PaulSkys numbers sound about right.

Unfortunately if that is the max then there isn't much that you can do.

Could you post your stats please? We might be able to see what is happening better.

Also could you confirm where you are plugging the router in, for example the Master Socket or an extension.

Also could you describe what else is plugged in to your telephone socket/s and how?

      Re: Braintree Essex Help

I am still yet to move in at the end of this month beginning of next.

I have not had Sky connected yet but I do know the current owner had Talk Talk which I have no interest in going with either, so cant give you any router stats.

'I_Hate_Sky_Awnsers' When you say they starting to publish the speeds you should be getting from BT, do you mean Righmove are or BT are or Sky?

As I say the Sky site has dropped by 4 megs for no reason, any ideas?

In this case I would give Sky a call in the morning and ask. Perhaps they've had a customer a few doors away with a 2Mb connection. This is only a guess though.

Ultimately an FTTC connection would definitely give you a faster up & down speed.

Sky have yet to announce their decisions relating to the FTTC products. The longer they wait, the more customers they are loosing.
