Download speed dipped just before FTTC RFS date.

      Hi

My download speed (sync speed) has suddenly dropped from 10 mbps to around 6.5 mbps and download speeds have consequently dipped to around 700k as a result. I've checked noise margin and line attenuation and they are unchanged.

Done the usual stuff, rebooted the router and it is always connected to the master socket test socket.

I am 5k from the exchange so with present technology 10mbps is the most I can expect.

It's worth noting Sky moved me on to a different easynet serivce to give me 1.1mbps upload speed (for accessing work folders) as opposed to the normal 500k.

Our RFS date for FTTC is 1/3/11 i.e. a couple of days, questions are:

Will this work be affecting my download speed?

Does this mean the speed will increase once FTTC is Ready For Service?

If you are 5K from the exchange, you would be lucky to get half that.

FTTC will make no difference to you until Sky start offering it, or you move to Bt Infinity or one of their resellers. What has possibly happened is that in doing the FTTC work the engineers have disturbed your line, causing a fault. BT will never admit to this so getting it fixed could be a problem.

Post your stats as they were and as they are now, that should show something.

Re: Download speed dipped just before FTTC RFS date.

Just checked and I'm actually 1.73km from the exchange.

I've unplugged the router for 10 mins and I'm up to 9.5 meg so nearly there.

perhaps it was down to peak usage??

      Present stats are:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 9538 kbps 1100 kbps
Line Attenuation 38 db 11 db
Noise Margin 7 db 7 db

That does not look too bad. Your stats are very similar to mine, I am 1.65K from the exchange with a true line length of 3.2K.
