      New to sky

      Hey everyone.

My migration to Sky LLU was completed this morning. Just a quick question about speed. I entered my router page and was delighted my downstream sync speed has increased from 2272 (my old ISP) to 4096. Fantastic news!

The trouble is, when I go to a website like speedtest.net the speed during the test initially spikes at about 3mb and then slows gradually down to about 1mb or less.

Is this normal for someone on their first day?

      Thanks.

It could be the router is syncing a bit higher than it should and generating errors. Post your stats if you would like further advice.

Thanks. Unfortunately that page you provided doesn't seem to offer instructions for Dlink routers. But I can give you my basic router stats:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3975 kbps 605 kbps
      Line Attenuation 56.0db 33.3db
      Noise Margin 4.8db 15.9db

      Re: New to sky

Yes you are syncing a bit too high, this will cause errors and a speed drop. If you have a Test socket, plug in there and post your stats again.
How to test your ADSL in the Master Test Socket

The instructions for getting stats are the same for V2 routers and are very similar for V1 router. We will have to update the instructions to include the Dlinks,

      Re: New to sky

      Hello again.

Just popped out to the shops, came home to discover the line had resynced. New stats as follows:

      down 3072kbps 56.5db 8.8db
      up 605 kbps 33.4db 15.9db

      this translates to this:

Much smoother internet experience now. BTW, I am already connected to the test socket with a single telephone on my circuit. Hopefully if it holds this noise margin and speed I should be good to go.

I'll post again if things change but for now it's looking good.

      Re: New to sky

That looks better, you should get a bit more on the upstream, just leave it connected and let DLM do its thing. It should resync in the early hours (between 2 and 3) and make more changes.
