      They both look fine.

I'm glad that you are getting your NTE5 box changed, but one part of me would suggest that as the corrosion indicates a problem with your existing box, it is BTO's responsibility to change that box.

It might be worth seeing if you can get that changed by you line operator (BT or Sky).

As for the faceplate, still order that. They are very useful.

Finally, something I've mentioned before, be very careful when playing with the live telephone wires.

can you see the corrosion from that picture? should i email sky and show them that picture and say it is a very old master socket and it could be the cause of the problems for my broadband? would they have a problem with me having taken off the front to look? lol

Yes I can see the corrosion.

If you are on Sky Talk, then it is now their responsibility to engage the services of BT Openreach to replace it as far as I would be concerned.

You are responsible for the wiring from the test socket onwards. Your telephone supplier is responsible for everything from the test socket to the exchange.

Firstly, I wouldn't chance BT, you are likely to receive a bill for 100+ if they feel that the socket is ok or they may just replace like for like and wouldn't fit a filtered faceplate either.

Secondly, there is no issue in messing with the "live" BT wires, they carry next to no voltage, certainly no more dangerous than changing a 9v battery in a smoke alarm etc.

Do it yourself, at least you know where you stand that way.

      Re: Sky Broadband speed

Hi , i just thought i would give you a update. I emailed sky with the picture and they phoned me as the speed has dropped to 1.3meg now. and they informed me if they did send sky out they would charge me 99 for the call out then extra for the works. They actually said if i can get hold of a faceplate replacement to do that and get a local phone engineer to sort it out privately. so i mentioned about it being "illegal" to do this but she said its on your side of the house so i can do this.

      Re: Sky Broadband speed

Replacing the master socket is a bit of a grey area. It is against BTs Terms, but not actually illegal. Sky do not seem to care. As long as you do a tidy job, no one will care.
