      Having Issues Loading Webpages

      Hi,

I have recently started to experience problems when using my internet connection, when I am browsing web pages they appear to hang occasionally as they are loading. I know it's not an issue with broadband speed because as soon as I hit the refresh button they reload instantly. Also when using P2P or downloading a file from the internet it maxes out my line.

This is happening to me using Chrome & Safari on OS X, I am connected via ethernet to my router so wireless isn't to blame.

I have also been using OpenDNS for years so can also rule out Sky's DNS servers as being at fault.

The only thing I have changed recently is having my max delay on the line set to 8, could this have caused this issue?

I have included my router stats below if that is any help.

      Re: Having Issues Loading Webpages

I seem to have exactly the same issues.

Click on a link to a webpage and it sits there waiting (Chrome) click again it it'll either wait again, or load as quick as it ever has.

Also on remote desktop. same issue. typing along, then it stops. it can stop for 5 mins before coming back again.

up until yesterday evening this was not an issue. i've had sky for years and been very happy.

I've tried different routers (I've got two of the old white ones) both behave exactly the same. ALso tried wired connection. no difference.

Run several virus checkers just in case. They have reported nothing.

and Speed check sites, the one on this page and elsewhere report 7mg. which is what i expect. When the internet decides to wake up it IS that fast (large downloads etc). it just seems to only wake up for a few seconds every minute or so.

      Re: Having Issues Loading Webpages

I have looked at your attached screenshot of the router stats and straight away I can see you have more serious issues than me.

Your SNR is far too low suggesting you have a lot of noise on your line. It should be no lower than 6.0 and your stats shows 0.8.

I am no expert in this so hopefully someone will come along that can offer you more help, either that or start a new post. Hopefully it's something easy like internal wiring because if it's something external you are in for a long battle with Sky and BT. Took them over a year to replace a faulty line for myself.

I have been keeping an eye on my stats and have posted my current stats below showing errors and the such in the hope that someone can help with my issue.

I can't see much wrong with Declan's connection, but yours BC is showing a very low noise margin. This will cause errors and slow the whole process down. The fact that you only have 15 minutes up time makes it even worse, that means the margin has dropped very quickly. Plug into your Test socket and run from there for a while. Then go to Mel's Notes and click the Detailed Stats button and post the result. Mel's Notes: Sky Netgear DG834GT-1skuk

I'll try what you suggest as soon as I get home. And post the results.

Could the stats be misleading as they were taken from the second router, it had only ever been plugged in for those 15 mins or so.

      Big thanks to everyone!

I moved the router to another socket and it's back up to speed.

I guess it'll have to stay there as i've no idea what could have gone wrong with the original one.

Although only my first post, this must be the 3rd or 4th time this forum has helped me. it's fantastic.

      Until next time,
      BC.

(Good luck on finding a solution DeclanTM)
