      Line testing

I've recently renewed my contract with sky. Apparently they did the line testing procedure all over again, even though I've been with Sky for quite some time now. From what i read on their website on my account, line testing finished yesterday. Speeds are fine and all, but not the latency. I used to have my latency around 40/45 and now it's gone up to 75/80. I kept checking it while line testing was ongoing, but I obviously knew it was because of the line testing procedure. But line testing has finished and I still have the same high latency.

Here's some of my router stats:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4093 kbps 798 kbps
Line Attenuation 55.5 db 29.6 db
Noise Margin 7.5 db 14.8 db

      Thanks in advance.

      Re: Line testing

You will have to call Sky and ask them to reduce your Delay to improve your gaming, the testing may have turned it back to default.

      Re: Line testing

It's a bit of pain calling them about that, they're a bit clueless. Last time I did that had to have the phone handed over to 1000 people lol I'll try and do that whenever I can.

      Re: Line testing

So, called Sky today and asked them to put me back on the gamer profile. I'm guessing this should take effect right away, but until now it's still the same and the upload speed went down quite a bit. These are my current router stats:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4091 kbps 415 kbps
Line Attenuation 56.0 db 29.4 db
Noise Margin 7.4 db 17.3 db

      Still about the same latency.

They've not done it, if they had the upstream would increase

      Re: Line testing

Exactly, that's what I was thinking. I've noticed whenever the guy who I was on the phone with said it went through, that my dsl went down and back up again. The last time I did this, upstream went up and latency went down. Should I call them back up again and ask it?

Yes, whoever did it made a mess of it, maybe you will have better luck next time.

      Re: Line testing

What a load of rubbish. Maybe I'm wrong. Called Sky again, the guy went into my account, checked everything and he comes up with ' Since you're not connected to the main socket there's nothing much we can do about it. The readings on you're extension socket are different from the main socket, and since you're on an extension socket, we can't do anything about it. It will get a lot worse and it will eventually stop coping. Plus, if you can connect your router to the main socket and have it run wirelessly, it will run a lot better than having it connected to an extension socket. '

      What is this?

      Re: Line testing

Try again, they may have you mixed up with someone else. You didn't do comparison figures with them did you? ie, they didn't ask you to unplug from an extension and put it in the master socket? If not there is no way they can tell what socket you are in. Looks like a fob off, call back and ask to be put through to the customer solutions team, as you are not happy with the treatment you are receiving from Tier 1.
