I am on the sky connect package and from the research I have done so far and I right in thinking this is just a rebadged BT product?
The reason I am asking is that I am a user on Usenet and have found my download speeds very strange. Whenever I do a speedtest I find I am getting between 5 and 7mb during the day, pre 4pm. However my downloading speed from the newgroups is, during this same time, sometime as low as 0.1KB a sec. However I think between 1am and 9am I am getting full speed.
I pressume Sky and or BT are throttling the speeds of those who access newgroups or do they just throttle heavy users?

I take it you have not searched the forum for others with Connect problems. Have a look here for a start -

Not strange at all - DUMP SKY CONNECT
There are lots of other ISPs who are capable of supplying a decent BB package.
Whilst Sky Unlimited is and excellent package & Sky Lite is fine, Sky Connect is over-subscribed for the bandwidth that Sky has available through the BT network.
You don't have to go to BT. A quick search will provide you with lots of choices. Also take a look at SamKnows, there may be an ISP who has their equipment in your local exchange. This could provide you with a better deal altogether.

I had a look on samknows and only found the following LLU having been enabled-
LLU operator presence
I take it this means that I have a choice between BT or Talk Talk.

Not really, there are plenty of resellers like Plusnet who resell the BT service and give better conditions. The only problem with TalkTalk is that you have to take their phone rental as well. Although they had a bad name to start with I have several friends who think they are very good. Like Sky, their Help line leaves a lot to be desired.

There are also resellers of TalkTalk/Opal who can give you Broadband only via a TT line.
One I know of is
"The service is ADSL2+ up to 24MB with a 100GB FUP £19.80 per month with free migration in."
