      New Customer - Unusable Internet

I've had Sky BB for a week now. It got connected a week ago. At first, We was getting around 5MB. About 2 days later, it jumped up to 15MB which was perfect.

Last night, and tonight the internet has been unusable. I mean physically I've had to use a 3G dongle because NO webpages wouldn't load. Internet would disconnect every minute.

Rung them up about it last night and they said it's because they're doing tests to stabilize the line so they can see what speed we'll get.

      It says

      Your Connection Details

Testing on your broadband connection began on 06/02/2011 and will be completed within 10 days.

You may notice some variations in your broadband speed and this is normal. We are aiming to give you the best quality experience. Please leave your router on during this time.

Check back here to confirm the maximum speeds supported by your connection.
The thing is, until last night, it had been fine. Fast speed, no drop outs or nothing.

So, am I going to have to suffer with this for another further 10 days?

Surely, this can't be so severe we can't use the BB at all?

DLM should not lead to intermittency, or not being able to browse. Post up your stats:

      Here's the situation.

We signed up so we got 6 months free and with Sky Anytime + the catch was we had to be wired, and I live in a 3 story house, so we had to have a 15m ADSL cable from the bottom off the stairs to the first flight of stairs. It had been fine.

I just unplugged it and took it downstairs to the phone socket, and it's working.

Connection Speed 14334 kbps 961 kbps
      Line Attenuation 30.0db 17.3db
      Noise Margin 7.0db 7.2db

Flat telephone extension cables - one of the worst things you can do to adsl. Your stats are great, so monitor it from here and all should be well assuming you're using the short grey dsl cable that Sky provided rather than the extension.

      OK what we've done is.

Have the router right next to the socket, and we're going to have to buy a 10-15m ethnet cable to run up the stairs for the Anytime + as that needs to go into the router into the Sky+ box.

Consider getting a pair of HomePlugs instead.

      Less mess.

Search the web & go for a pair that support 200Mbps as they are actually 100Mbps duplex (ie same as your LAN).

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms
