Everyone talks about the download speed, which is important, but very few discuss the upload speed.

Having had the opportunity to compare the difference between .28Mb, 1Mb, 1.3Mb and 2.3Mb, I can assure you that this is also an important consideration.

I've just looked on the Virgin website and all they mention are the DL speeds, nothing about UL. With FTTC offering you 8.2-13Mb ul, I personally would opt for that.

As to whether I would go to BT, definitely not after that nasty level of service I experienced with them.

There are other companies who can offer FTTC already. Sky are still 'running trials', but they will hopefully announce a product range sometime soon, so it might be worth waiting a little while longer.

Sadly where I live, FTTC is stil not available

      Hi,

I called Sky and asked them to increase the speed which they did, My speed is 3 MB now as the stats say,but what i dont getis why didnt they just gave me 3MB from the start? Why did i had to call them to get the max speed?

Anyway it is good but my Ping is still bad... I guess i will stick with sky for a bit longer.

      BUT
This site is saying something else?

Pigs can fly, lollipops grow on trees and the country is in a great financial position.

That site is well known for it's nonsensical test speeds.

With regards your ping, if you are a gamer, call Sky and ask them to reduce your Delay. Be aware that this could also reduce your speed.

I've mentioned this elsewhere on this forum, but personally I tried on a variety of different servers and at different times of day to get a reasonable guide to what my connection speed is.

Downloading a large file from somewhere like M$ is also useful if you can note the download speed.
