Is that when you are connected to the Test socket using only the ADSL cable supplied by Sky, no telephone extension cables?

I have changed the adsl cable, although its not the one that sky gave me, it is not the flat one. But what do you mean by test socket? and yes i have tried without telephone extension but get the same results.

I think i give up with my sky BB, I have checked the max speed i can get in my area, it says i can get 3 mb MAX, But when i connect to my Neighbor's internet which doesn't require a password(cheeky), I see their Internet goes up to 10mb+ and their ISP is Virgin.

Naughty Technically it would be theft if you were to connect to their WiFi on a regular basis.

Don't fall into the trap of comparing Virgin with Sky. Virgin use a different cabling system altogether and their BB packages are much closer to their stated maximum speeds.

Sky currently uses ADSL & ADSL2+ technology. The signal degrades the further you are from the telephone exchange.

As for your test socket, take a look at the link below.

How to test your Master Socket

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

If you have Virgin cable available and you should have if your neighbour has it, and you want a good broadband speed then go for cable. You will not get anywhere near their speed with ADSL with any ISP. Maybe when your exchange is equipped with FTTC and you have access to it, you will get a better speed, but not till then.

That exchange is FTTC enabled. I would have no idea whether the nearest cabinet is enabled though. SamKnows reports 'Limited availability'.

Both the Portsmouth exchanges have been upgraded to FTTC. Others in the area have dates. Mine doesn't thought

      Thank you guys for replying.

I am aware it is theft to use someone else's connection but when your internet is slow it is tempting

Can you tell me more about FTTC? I checked the virgin site and they said Cable is available in my care and i can get up to 50 MB .(Sorry, i'm not trying to promote virgin, i can't help it).

FTTC = Fibre To The Cabinet.

It currently promises download speeds of up to 40Mbps, with up to 10Mbps upload speeds. Later it is likely that 100Mbps connections will be made available.

BT Locations for FTTC Roll out

Although this is currently a BT product, some ISPs are now supplying it.

I haven't seen any 'unlimited' packages available. Some have limits that you could theoretically hit within a few hours, most you could run into after a few days. This assumes that you are running flat-out on downloads. 300Gb limits is quite significant for most users.

If FTTC is available where you are, do search for alternative ISPs. Many members are also waiting for Sky to announce when they are likely to market an FTTC based product.

P.S. Many people think that open WiFi connections are fair game. Sadly this isn't the case. Security is one thing, using bandwidth is another.

Re: I am getting 0.5 mb speed instead of 20 mb speed. PLEASE HELP!

      Look what i found!

Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial check on your postcode indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 1Mbps. However due to the length of your line the 1Mbps service may require an engineer visit who will, where possible, supply the broadband service.

Our check also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 2Mbps. Similar lines predicted with this speed have achieved ADSL Max line speeds in the range of 1 to 3.5Mbps.

Our check also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 2.5Mbps. Similar lines predicted with this speed have achieved ADSL2+ line speed in the range of 1 to 4Mbps.

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed between 34.4 to 40 Mbps and upstream line speed between 8.2 to 13.2 Mbps.

The actual stable line speed supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use. This speed may change over time, to ensure line stability is maintained.

If you decide to place an order, a further test will be performed to confirm if your line is suitable for the service you wish to purchase.

      Thank you for your interest.

Please note that postcode and address check results are indicative only. Most accurate results can be obtained from a telephone number check.

This was from BT! But my neigbor gets higher than that!

If they are getting more than that they must be on Virgin 50Mb.

If I were you I would be off to fibre as quickly as my fingers could place the order, even with a good line you will only get 2-3Mb on ADSL.
