How far are you from your actual telephone exchange?

You're reasonably local to me and most of the area is densely populated. Not many people live in a rural area.

I know that some areas of Fratton & Hayling might be far enough from the exchange to get a poor speed, but your line attenuation should be a lot better than you are showing.

One other thing I meant to mention is your ADSL cable. How long is it? It looks like a flat cable and these are sometimes very poor over any distance. You should use the cable supplied by Sky and if that is not long enough, get a good quality one made of twisted pair cable.

Thank you guys so much for replying,

I live in Southsea, near the sea and it is quite densely populated.

I have some pictures to show and make it clear for this issue.

      http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...1/IMG_0232.jpg

It goes Main socket- Socket filter?- Splitter- Phone cable and Modem cable input - Router

      http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...1/IMG_0233.jpg

      Splitter removed from the socket

      http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...1/IMG_0235.jpg

I do not know what that is but it reads, "Sky TV do not unplug",
Sky continuous working even if it is unplugged but when i remove that filter and put the splitter with the modem cables in the main socket instead, the internet connects but when i try to browse websites, it brings up the Sky page saying Internet is not available. And also notice that wire connected to it, Is it for sky?

      http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...1/IMG_0241.jpg

This is a DSL cable i brought separately, it is flat and very thin, 3 meters long

      http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...1/IMG_0243.jpg
      http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...1/IMG_0246.jpg

      This is the Sky router.

Is there something wrong with this set up?

      First image is your problem.
      http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...1/IMG_0233.jpg
That is a splitter and you are bypassing your filter.
The first thing on your socket (adaptor with cable out the bottom of it) is a splitter, the thing plugged into it is a filter. you need to put the splitter into the telephone socket on the filter and the filter itself must go onto the telephone socket first. You need the splitter as that is the cable going to your sky tv box but the splitter MUST go into the filter.

Re: I am getting 0.5 mb speed instead of 20 mb speed. PLEASE HELP!

Paul has mentioned the correct answer for getting better speed.

BT Socket --- ADSL Splitter --- Sky's Splitter with 'Do Not remove'
      ........................|
      ........................--- Router

You should notice an improvement in your connection speed.

If you've lost the Sky grey lead, then I'd certainly recommend investing is a shorter lead between your router & the filter. Your signal is being lost here and your speed is dropping even more as a result.

With regards to your Sky+ HD reporting that it is not connected to the Internet, this is because the telephone line is connected, but not the LAN cable.

There is a separate port at the back of your Sky STB marked 'LAN'. You can plug the yellow network cable into this and your router. You can then enable Anytime+ in your on-line Sky account. Then within a day or two you'll be able to download Anytime+ content.

If you don't have a LAN cable long enough, I know that there are plenty of local shops that can sell you one. A new place in North End is Solent Cables, who are quite cheap.

Alternatively Maplin & Noavtech sell HomePlug adapters and are local too.

      Good luck.

I would recommend getting rid of that flat ADSL cable, (use it to tie up the dog or something useful like that), it will pick up interference which will ultimately reduce your speed. Buy a good quality cable like this - ADSL Nation LTD. changed the inputs to your socket as recommended and most of your problems will be over.

I have changed it around but there is no difference, same speed.
Do you think it is BT's fault? I think they have capped my connection. I remember one of the BT staff had asked me how many Computers i have and i said that i have 1 (I now have 7 devices using the Internet). Do you think they have capped my internet to certain speed? Also when i go on a ISP website and checked the availability, On every single ISP site, it says the max speed i can get is 3mb. Any connection?

      Thanks

And @Isitme, your comment made me laugh

Your ISP is Sky, not BT, so BT have no control over your connection. To confirm, the set-up is now as follows:

MF = microfilter. Splitter = that box that says 'Sky tv, do not unplug'.

If so, post up your stats again. They may still be being hindered by the extension cable, but they should look healthier with the set-up corrected.

How to get your router statistics

You are unlikely to see an immediate increase in speed. If you have made the recommended changes, post your stats.
