      Slow connection my fault??

      Hi
Really been suffering this past week with a slow connection.
As I live very close to the exchange I usually get a regular stable 15meg downstream, but this past week I have been struggling to hit 3.5 - 4.0

Just been on to sky, who went through the usual, then told me that my computer was faulty as the line was fine.
He also said I should never use 3rd party websites to measure my speed.
Right at the end of the call he directed me to my maintenance page on my router which is showing

      Code:
      ADSL Firmware Version	A2pB023o.d20h
      Modem Status	Up
      DownStream Connection Speed	17023
      UpStream Connection Speed	846
      VPI	0
      VCI	38
I was really shocked by this as it's been taking me upto a minute to get facebook homepage to load, also the few speedtest websites I have tried do not give anywhere near this? Usually I use speed.io

      UPDATE:
Strangely enough I have just got off the phone about 10 mins ago & tried the speedtest on this site, which now reports
      Code:
Your download speed is 12840Kbps. Your upload speed is 699Kbps.
      What is going on?
Is there something wrong with my computer?

Speed.io has always been bang on with results from my modem & this site.
Erm..... something not quite right here....????

WOOOOO HOOOOOO!!! - BURN BABY BURN!!!! I'll take the 1st one please

I am sooooooo jealous! Nearly 200Mbps on a 100Mbps LAN and a 'up to' 20Mbps connection!

Seriously though, there are issues in some parts of the north. Search this forum to see if your in one of the affected areas.

The CS person should have known this before coming to such conclusions.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

Are you testing wirelessly or via ethernet?
Do you get the same slow throughput on all your machines in the house?

This is a very commen problem with connect customers. You're acturly connecting using BT's equipment so you may be getting effected by BT's crazy fair usage which basically means that they're putting a cap on the speed. This is me just making a guess that you're on the connect package.

Have you done a netstat in command prompt? (start, all programs, assesories, command prompt, just type netstat)
If you have more than 20 applications running with all programs closed that connect to the the internet then you may have a throughput issue which needs to be escilated to CST (tear 2), if you have more then run some anti-virus soft wear.

If you have programs like iPlayer or iTunes running in the background this can slow your speed alot, also bit-torrents are a common offender. They use up alot of bandwith and can slow the connection down dramatically.

Also if you are having general problems with your computer, so if it's running really slow get it looked at.

Could also be a wireless issue. Try connecting the computer to the router using the yellow ethernet cable and see if you have the same problem. If the connection is back to normal then it'll be a wireless issue and you'll need to trouble shoot that.

If you still having a problem with a slow connection ask tear 1 to log a throughput fault and transfer you to CST. You will not need to do any basic trouble shooting like changing filters and rubbish like that which many agents will try and get you to do, so ignore that, and if you have to hang up and try again, do it. BB Tech is really quiet at the min so it's unlikely you'll get stuck in more than a 5 min call que.

Just leave Connect for a proper package, regardless of netstat, background programmes it will always be a terrible product and the sooner Sky realise this the better

Connect is up to 8128/448. The OP's trained in at 17023/846.

I've had connect customers who get 10Mb on their router status page. Strange things happen. The trouble shooting is however the same.

That'll likely be some kind of chordiant error showing Connect, rather than LLU. I've never seen anyone on Connect get over 8128kbps, whether that be in the RSP or in BTW Fault Diagnostics, in nearly three years of working at Sky.
