Secondary Socket higher speed than Master??

      Hi all,

Thanks for any help you can offer on this - it'll be really appreciated. For info my statistics are as below, basically I'm gettinf a faster stream via secondary tahn master.:

      Whille connected to MASTER socket:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1644 kbps 512 kbps
      Line Attenuation 56.5db 31.5db
      Noise Margin 10.4db 13.3db

While connected to a Secondary socket (non BT on an internal wall)

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2176 kbps 512 kbps
      Line Attenuation 56.5db 31.5db
      Noise Margin 9.1db 14.0db

I am in my first ten days, but my statistics have held fairly constant from both sockets. I only stumbled on the difference when my speed dropped to 512k, and I did some problem solving with different sockets (that cause was a faulty micro filter).

Has anyone got any ideas why the difference in speeds. I am only expecting a max of 4.5mbps, so while I was hoping for more than 2.1mbps I am not wholly surprised - but should I expect faster?

I am using the supplied cable, no extention, micro filters on all connection, sky box on its own socket, router on its own socket.

      Anyway, tahnks for any help.

      DT

Can you post up pictures of the two sockets?

Taking the lower noise margin into account there is not really much difference. If you have a Test socket plug it in there and see how the stats are. If you don't have a Test sockets, remove the ring wire from the number 3 terminal on the back of the faceplate and see if there is any difference.

What do you get removing the bottom half of the 'master' and connecting in the test socket?

There you go, that shows your internal wiring is interfering. Buy fit and use a filtered faceplate-
XTE-2005 Filtered Master Faceplate - ADSL Nation

I think your line is on G.DMT so I am not sure if DLM is running, it usually only runs on ADSL2+ lines.

Can I in the interim keep using the test socket?

      Thanks.

No reason why not, but none of your other sockets should work.
