That is even worse. Can you plug into the Test socket?

It is strange to get a poorer result from the test socket than from the faceplate in a multi socket phone circuit. Just another couple of things to check-
Are there wires attached to the faceplate of the master socket?
Are all your other sockets dead, ie, no dial tone when the faceplate is removed from the master socket?

Yes I can confirm there are wires attached to the faceplate and when I remove the faceplace the other sockets become dead.

Then I am afraid it looks like you have a fault on your line or at the exchange. Both of these are very difficult to get fixed as Sky are liable to say you are getting xxMb and that is all your line will support, even if the reason for this is that there is a fault somewhere.

Thing is as I say - the speed is fine at the moment. Surely I should be running these tests the next time things slow down?

But your speed is not fine, you should be getting 10-11Mb with your attenuation. You are only getting about half that.
