      Broadband account wanted

I am asking this question on behalf of my elderly parents who wish to become silver surfers.

They have an existing Sky satellite account and they tell me it costs them a little over 50 per month and gives them movie and sports channels.

They want a broadband connection but are confused by the adverts. I have looked at the Sky adverts for broadband and am also confused.

Can someone advise me as to what contract would be best for them?

Hi, As your parents are likely to be relatively low users then sky every day lite would be the best option for them (subject to availibilty in their local exchnage).

This option would be free if your parents took out the free evening and weekend calls package with Sky.

At this stage I assume your parents are with BT for the telephoe line rental at the moment? If they are they have an option of tranferring their line rental to sky as well. This would be 11.25 a month but would get them free broadband and free evening and weekend calls (to certain numbers). Private message me there postcode and I can check to see if everyday lite is available in their area. Or if you don't want to message their postcode you can go to a website such as sam knows and check on a broadband availibity checker. Any questions don't hesitate to ask. Hope this helps.

Put their phone number in the box on this page -
      SamKnows - Telephone Exchange Search
Click the link to the exchange that comes up. That will tell you whether Sky is available on their exchange, in a column on the right.

I have sent via PM the required info. From what I can deduce only Sky broadband connect is available but it seems very difficult to pin down what it is going to cost or what contract is required.

If only Connect is available, don't even think about it unless the basic cost is drastically reduced. Normally I would not recommend it, but if your parents only want to surf and email it will be OK, but if they get into gaming or streaming Youtube, forget about it. They would be better signing up with Plusnet.

I have checked out the plusnet website and it seems just what they need. Do you know why this company is owned by BT but offers a cheaper service than BT?

Most of the BT resellers are cheaper than BT for similar packages. I think they probably work on a smaller profit margin.
