Re: relay o2 email to sky bb

Depends on what you mean by "relay". If you just want to continue using your o2 email then I don't think any changes will be needed as the o2 SMPT server (smtp.o2.co.uk) is authenticated.
Whether o2 will stop your account if you are no longer a customer I dont know as I went from Sky to o2 but Sky email is for life. (or so they say!)

Sorry if I've misunderstood your question.

O2 do stop the Email after about 4 weeks from contract ending.

Interesting I never thought about or knew that, do they downgrade it to a dialup account?

Re: relay o2 email to sky bb

No, Sky mail is Web based the same as Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo etc, which are all 'for life'. If you move to another ISP you will not be able to use the Sky mail with a client, unless you use a SMTP account, but it will still work perfectly well using the Web interface.

To set up to receive O2 mail put the following details into the server section
      IncomingPop3 ..mail.o2.co.uk
      Outgoing...........smtp.tools.sky.com

This allows you to receive mail sent to your O2 account and reply using your Sky account. To send and receive through O2 you would need an SMTP account, which is hardly worth it as your O2 account will 'die' in a few weeks. Advise all your contacts that your address has changed.

Actually Tom both Sky's and o2's SMTP servers can be used from any ISP as long as that ISP isn't blocking the port used. Presumably this is because both are authenticated, much like the skyuser SMTP.

Did you set it up with the username and password for O2?

Re: relay o2 email to sky bb

Try changing your settings back to the O2 SMTP server (smtp.o2.co.uk) and change the outgoing ports.

On the 'Advanced' tab for Outlook Express & Windows Live Mail, change the Outgoing mail (SMTP) to 465 & tick the box to indicate that the server requires a secure connection (SSL).

If port 465 fails try 585. If this fails, then other ports might work. For a full list of ports, a quick search on the Internet might help.

Re: relay o2 email to sky bb

As far as I know o2 do not support SSL on their SMTP server so I don't think trying Scubbie's suggestion will work.

@missy131. Using mail.o2.co.uk for incomming amd smtp.o2.co.uk for outgoing, both authenticated with your full o2 emaill address and password should work O.K.

If not what error are you getting? And is it both sending and receiving that fail or only one?

Again this could be a problem if not corrected.
